:scared1::scared1: I truly hate them! I don't mind BTMRR, but I absolutely hate the feeling of your stomach dropping on roller coaster drops. My kids don't get it. I'm not scared, I just HATE that feeling! I won't go on Splash Mtn or EE (I tried it after much bullying and sobbed throughout the entire ride ) and I really don't even like Space Mtn. Truly, that pic they take at the end of EE showed my dd (5, yes 5, at the time) with her arms flung in the air and a HUGE smile on her face and me with my head buried under my arms.) After that experience, I was content to stand and take the pictures of the car coming out of the mountain while they rode it 75 more times.

So we leave in 3 weeks and I'm getting sick just thinking about Space Mtn. The kiddos and my dh are already pressuring me about Splash (c'mon mom, the drop is barely anything) and EE (but mom, it's NOT scary.) I gave in last time on Space Mtn. as well, and to compromise, I said I'd do it again, but I'm already getting anxious about it. How sad is that?!!! Why, oh why couldn't they be renovating Space Mtn while we're there?!!

Am I alone in this horrible phobia?!!!

I used to have that phobia but I have gotten better in the last 10 years. I does suck to be the only person not riding something, I agree!

I will now ride the coasters but for whatever reason I cannot stand rides with just a drop. Family forced me onto Splash once and I was so stressed out through the whole 11 minutes that I can barely remember it. I've never been on ToT. I stood in line with DH when we went together but took the chicken exit.

I've resigned myself to just enjoy everything else and not let anyone make me do something I don't want to do. It's my vacation! It's your vacation, too! Go ahead and treat yourself to a Dole Whip while everyone else is on the coasters and don't let them bother you.

I've never been on a roller coaster besides the kiddie ones... does that answer your question? I'm a big chicken, I wouldn't go towards any of the rides you just named while we were there!!! BUT I do plan to try Splash Mtn and BTMRR when we go in March. I don't think I could handle EE, RnR...not sure about Space Mtn either.... :guilty:

Oh exactly! My dh keeps saying "but it's such a nice air-conditioned 10 minute ride. You'd really like it!" I keep telling him that I won't enjoy it because I'll be stressed out the entire time thinking about that drop at the end!
Thanks for reaffirming my wish to remain firmly on the ground while they ride. I'll still feel guilty though! Can't help it.

My husband is! He won't go on space mountain, Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, Mission Space (feels claustrophobic), EE. I keep hoping my oldest (7) will start liking them soon!!

I've just resigned myself to going alone. I get bored with things like Tom Sawyers Island and the Swiss Family Treehouse, so DH takes the girls there while I do Thunder Mt and Splash Mountain.

When I ride Space Mountain, he takes them to Buzz for a second time.

My oldest DID finally try splash mountain last year and loved it, and youngest DD will be old enough in December, so my DH has promised to at least go on that. I'm hoping to get him on Thunder Mountain too. But I do try not to pressure or make him feel guilty - like someone else said this is YOUR vacation too and it's no fun to feel guilty or stressed - or sick after a roller coaster.

I HATE them, except for BTMRR. And actually I enjoy EE too...but I don't like the initial ascent (I keep my eyes closed), nor do I like the pause when you're waiting to go backwards. Space and Splash Mountain both made me cry and the closest I've gotten to RnR is getting a fastpass before I chicken out. I was convinced to do Splash Mountain after being told the worst was that one drop...I had no idea that there was more than just one drop, even if it wasn't as big a drop. I don't like not knowing what's coming up. I was going to buy the picture to prove I went on it. Well, my husband and I were in the back row and all you could see of me was a bit of my left arm because I completely buried myself into my husband. lol

Agree to wait in line with them, and then take the chicken exit. If the family protests, I would tell them it isn't fair for you to be made to do something that scares you after you've already tried it. Just like the proverbial "you have to try it once" that you might say to your kids at the dinner table, you tried it once (and in some cases more than once) and you want a pass.

But I wouldn't let them force you and I wouldn't feel bad. Go in line with the family, but meet them on the other side.

If there is a roller coaster that you would like, I believe it would be Rock'n Roller Coaster. There are no clanking lifts up to a high point. There are no drops. The colorful lights and great music take you mind completely off the ride. It's the second best ride in all of WDW, and one that I truly believe you might be able to endure.

Absolutely hate them... But here is the twist.

Splash Mountain is one of my favorite rides, however my husband hates me on it... Because I am so anxious the whole time. But I love it.

I WILL NEVER RIDE SPACE MOUNTAIN AGAIN! It is my least favorite ride at Disney, I absolutely hate it. I think it may be it is a roller coaster in the dark? and I feel claustrophobic? However...

The only "real" roller coaster I will ride (I don't consider Splash since it is really just 1 drop) is Rock'n'Roller Coaster. It is the only roller coaster. I have done EE and didn't like it, I may try it again one day, but not a must do for me.

I haven't been on many roller coasters- This list is about it. I won't ride them anywhere else, and my husband has to beg and drag me on there. I always try to suck it up, because I know I make him do things at Disney that he would prefer not to (like ride the Safari at AK 1,000 different times).

I do sympathize with you about the roller coasters. And it always makes me feel better to know that I am not the only one. :)

I don't like coasters either, but always go on them because of my dh and dd. I've even ridden RNRC and I won't ride coasters that go upside down anywhere else, although I have to confess that I always close my eyes. lol Last spring we went to Disneyland and we rode Space Mtn. I was doing fine and we even enjoying it for a change when the coaster whipped around a turn and my head went with it and I was instantly sick and sick for the next hour or so after I got off. I have since informed my dh that I am done with roller coasters. I might ride Big Thunder Mtn., but not any of the others. I told him I'd just go on something else while he rides alone and he's fine with that. In fact we've done that in the past when our dd wanted multiple rides on RNRC. I would ride the first time and then sit and wait til they road again. Or they would ride Space Mtn. repeatedly and I would ride TTA.

My dh told me he didn't really care if he rode the coasters during our next trip, but he did want one ride on RNRC. I told him I'd ride Star Tours while he rides RNRC and he's fine with that since Star Tours makes him sick. :)

I don't know that I'd call it a phobia. The sensations that coasters and thrill rides produce (high speed, sharp drops, being flung upside down) are fun for some people, unpleasant for others. It's not a phobia to want to avoid doing something that makes you physically uncomfortable.

Why stress out about it? Just tell your family that you don't feel well when you ride certain rides, and you're not going to do it. It's just a couple of rides out of the dozens in WDW theme parks, they can manage without you. Grab a soda or a snack and relax while they ride, or browse in a gift shop. It's your vacation, too.

We aren't big roller coaster ride people either. DH did ride Areosmith single rider our last trip and loved it. We do love BTMR and I will ride splash, not crazy about that one drop but it is worth it for the rest of the ride. The last few years we stressed about working up our nerve to ride EE and I finally decided why get so worked up over something you are so scared of when there is so much to do and enjoy at Disney. I am lucky my 12 dd so far feels the same way I do about roller coasters and big thrill rides, but I do know it would make it hard to say no with your kids wanting you to go.

I agree with Lynne M. While I do have a true phobia of heights, I just have an intense dislike of most roller coasters. Yes the steep ascents of some coasters (EE) scare me:eek:. But it's the sensation you get from whipping around curves or becoming inverted (loops, corkscrews) that really seem to do a number on my inner ear and stomach..

My DDs and DH really like all of the coasters and 'drop' rides. To placate them (and to convince myself that I'm not just a big chicken) I've ridden all of them except RnRC. I found that I actually enjoy some: BTMRR, Splash Mtn; can tolerate some: Space Mtn (but not the one in DLP:scared1:), and can't go near the rest: RnRC, ToT, EE.

The family are fine with this. They know I've tried them, and they're OK with me doing something else while they ride. Usually I'm quite happy to find a bit of shade and do some people watching:) Absolutely no point in ruining your day just to ride as a group. Meet them at the exit with a smile.:)

I absolutely hate rollercoasters...but I will ride anything at WDW. They are so tame that even I find them fun.

I read your post and thought I was reading about myself. I feel exactly like you do.

I LOVE BTMRR but have never rode Spalsh or RnR. I have rode Space everytime we have went, but it doesn't have a "huge" drop. I actually like SM, just not as much as BTMRR. On my last trip I thought I would live dangerously and ride EE - worst mistake of my life. Never again lol.

I don't like roller coasters either. I remember riding them when I was younger (18-mid 20's) at Canada's Wonderland. And really, I know I had fun then. But I have only tried once or twice in the past 20 years and found I was scared.

It's more when the coaster goes into turns for me. I feel like the car? will completely fall off the tracks when it leans into the turn. Scares the heck out of me.

Still, I'm hoping to try Big Thunder Mountain this time around. My husband said he will go with me. Our DS7 won't have a problem with the ride. My DD12 flat out won't I know, so I'll have to show her where the exit is and get her to wait there.

Can't make up my mind about Splash Mountain though.

I use to be, the first time we went I DID NOT ride any rollercoasters at all :scared1:, but the second year I just did it, the fear was there, butterflies and all :lmao: but MAN was it fun. So I say try it at least once you never know you might like it :thumbsup2

Love Canada's Wonderland! Coasters there are awesome! I used to be the perennial bag holder - refusing to go on anything then one day I thought I'm just going to give it a go and I loved it. Now at the ripe old age of 41 I'm looking forward to doing Manta, Sheikra, The Hulk etc when we're there in October.

Just a word of warning if you're sat next to me better have earplugs in!:rolleyes1

Really, truly? No drops???!!! If so, I could do that one! Like I said, BTMRR doesn't bother me at all. As a matter of fact, even loop-de-loops don't bother me - it's just that darn drop. And I should clarify, dh and the kiddos don't really MAKE me feel guilty, I put that on myself. They do, however, try to pressure me into going thinking that if they love it so much, I should too. Well heck, we don't typically do DHS, but if I could actually do RnR, maybe we'll add it to the list this time! Thanks! :goodvibes :worship:
