i live in the southern thumb of michigan, and we got our power back today (*friday) at about 7:40... its so hot here, these things always happen at the best times, haha, just wondering if anyone else was affected by this and what times their power got back on. i was fortunate to be in one of the "less populated" areas, so i got my power quickly. right now, all we have running is the computer and tv, no lights, all windows wide open. just wanted to know what other people are experiencing right now. being in the rural areas, my cousin bought 8 cases of beer and plenty of ice and cigarettes and decided to ride out the outage. lol, you can tell we're from the country.

I live in central New Jersey, and work at a hotel at Newark Airport. From what I understand "my" power was only out breifly, but I really don't know how long as I didn't make it home from work until 1:00am. Power at work was out for about two and a half hours. We could have had it a lot worse, but we had our own set of headaches once the power came back on since the airport is still not back to normal.

We live in Michigan, Macomb County, just north of Detroit. We got power back at 4PM EDT - 24 hours of outage. Really hot, really humid - did NOT sleep well last night.

I live in Cortland, NY, close to the center of the state and rural. While NYC got most of the attention (what's new? ), much of the state was also affected. Our power came back on Thursday night at 9:00; however, I spent the night at my mother's house because her village has its own electric supply.

We live on LI in NY and were without power for about 5 hours. Our Cable Tv didnt come back on for about 24 hours. It was very very hot, so as soon as the power came back on We put on one air conditioner and 1 lamp.

My 9 yr old DS was kinda scared, but I tried to tell him it was an adventure and told him stories about the blackouts we had in the 60's when I was young.
( I know Im dating myself) lol.

We live in Ohio (60 miles south of Cleveland) and were without power for about 7 hours. It was really odd, but I'm glad it didn't take much longer. The house was getting very warm and the kids were driving us crazy with the flashlights.

We live in North Jersey, about 15 miles from the city, and we were without power for 9 hours. It was extremely frustrating because across the field from us, they had power, and a few blocks away had power. It was very strange!

Needless to say, it was extremely hot and sticky, and I wound up throwing out most of the food in my refrigerator!

In the west side of Rockland County NY, our power came on about 9 pm Thursday evening. There were others in our town with power on nearly one and a half hours earlier. It was hot and I worried, at first, that it was somehow terrorist related. I was relieved to hear it was not. My four and a half year old was "spooked" by the darkness. I spoke to her about times when there was no electricity. She was curious about it. I let her stay up because I knew she was scared and confused as were we. Our television and computer use cable and they were out most of today. We had friends who were unable to use their telephones. I really feel for those people in the city (NYC) who still have no power or are still unable to make it home because of transportation.

I work in downtown Manhattan & live in Brooklyn, It took me 1 & 1/2 hours to walk down 30 flights & across the Brooklyn bridge.
My car was parked in downtown Brooklyn in a garage. It was on a lift & without electricity there was no way to get it down! I stayed at my old office downtown & at 8am Friday was finally able to get my car & go home! We didn't get ourelectricity back until about 6:50 pm 8/15! I won't be returning to work Monday, as this is something I have feared since 9/11. I have 2 yoyng kids, recently lost my mom & have a sickly Grandmother. I don;t ever want to be in this situation again! So close to home, yet so far! Kathy :(

I work in downtown Detroit and live in Sterling Heights, MI. In order to get home on Thursday, I had to walk down 23 flights of stairs and then inch my way down 5 levels to get out of the parking garage. The trip home was horrible. The freeways were parking lots. It took me about 2 1/2 hours to get home. We were lucky - we were only without power for 15 hours - our power went back on yesterday morning at 7:00 a.m. However, we were somewhat isolated. All the areas around us were without power much longer.

Didn't have cable for the tv or the computer until this morning.

Glad to be back.

We were 21 hours without power in Washtenaw County Mich. Thank goodness we had water the whole time! We made the best of it all, once DH got home from his work in downtown Detroit (took over 2 hours!). Got to chat with lots of our neighbors and "campout" in our cool basement with kids and dog!

Another NYer here, we were out from 4:11 to 3:20. It was an inconvenience but nothing major.
I was a little worried at first when I heard how far the outages stretched, but when it was uneventful, I just went with the flow.

Luckily I didn't loose any food, we leave for WDW tomorrow and I was trying to finish everything we had. We were down to the bare minimum :)

I live just outside Buffalo NY and we didn't loose power at all. Even though every town that boarders ours did. Once we knew what was going on we did begin to shut most things down to try and conserve energy so they could get it back faster. Our radio stations here were playing pretty much only music not telling anyone anything. So I had everyone I know calling me for updates since we still had TV.

We live in Brooklyn, NY, and while most of our friends in Brooklyn got their power back early Friday morning, we did not get ours back until Friday night at 6:30PM. Another trek over the Brooklyn Bridge to get home. Not fun !!!

:(

We live about 15-20 miles south of Cleveland, Ohio. We were blessed because we had electricity the entire time.

The funny thing is that our city was jam packed that day! All the hotels were sold out, restaurants were packed, gas station lines were very long, and grocery stores sold out of water pretty quickly. Our water service did not stop completely, but the water trickled very slowly. As far as I know, we are still on a boil alert.

We also live in NYC . Power did not resume till 6:15 am on friday in our neighborhood. While going without power for 14 hours isn't my cup of tea, it was actually kind of fun.
I work in my neighborhood (no long commute...ever) and my wife joined me as soon as we lost power. I work next to a restaurant that had set up tables of food to sell as dinner time was approaching. Before I knew it I was helping out flipping burgers and chicken and having a great time. When it got dark a tow truck pulled over and cast light upon the impromtu event.
Music was playing and the smoke from the grills was calling people from down the blocks over to join in on the fun.
At home my dw and i lit candles and had a romantic evening without any distractions. All in all it was a memorable experience.

It was weird. Our power kept going on and off. Down the street all the power was out, but only one side of the street. You drove a little further and more was out, another quarter mile and everything was on.

But most importantly, I could not DIS!! Even when the power was on, the internet service wasn't. How glad I am to be back!:D

I live in Southern Ontario, and was affected, and got power back around 2am yesterday. Went to work yesterday and the power went out around 1 or 2 pm, so we all got to go home early!!

I live in a small town in Oakland County, Michigan, and it took 25 hours to get our power back on. Of course, you can imagine the chaos that took place for people all over to look for bags of ice, water, batteries, food staples, etc., but my mom & I were able to make do with what we had. Our water came on full blast this morning, so even though we're under a boil advisory, it was so GOOD to actually take a shower!! :p :jester:

Most of all, I'm back online...I've missed you guys! :D

I live in northern NJ. My sons, ages 9 and 14 went that day to New York City with my mom and brother to meet my sister who lives in the City and see some sites.

At about 4pm I called them and spoke to my 9 year old who had my cell phone in case of an emergency. He was happy and was running to catch the subway.

Almost 3 hours later, they called and said they were stuck in the subway for 1 and 1/2 hours! Eventually there were told to walk in between the cars to get to the last subway car and then the workers helped them walk on the tracks and then lifted them onto the platform. My 9 year old said that the workers just took turns lifting him up and carrying him across the tracks.

My sons sounded actually alittle excited about the events but I was mostly worried about my 78 year old mother who with her high blood pressure and fragile legs had a hard time walking 60 City blocks.

They eventually caught a ferry to NJ. But it took my husband 2 hours to get to them when it should have been only 18 minutes because the police wouldn't let him get off the exit to get into the town so he had to go a really backward route.

My midnight my 9 year old was too tired and scared to be brave and started to cry. He even asked my mom to say a pray with him. People on the NJ side did offer them a ride home which was really nice but my husband was already on his way.

They finally came home at 1:30 AM. My sister who lives in NY walked 100 blocks to get home in the pitch dark, but said people had candles and flashlights so she tried to stay in their light.
