I just heard a bad review and was wondering if anyone else has eaten there lately and what they thought. We have Spoodles as our first restaurant on our first night. I was hoping it would be good.

Anyone? :wizard:

We haven't eaten there in a couple of years. I do know that the executive chef that made Spoodles such a wonderful restaurant for so many years has moved up, so I wasn't surprised to read reviews that the restaurant has lost its lustre.

Thanks Bicker. We may try something different then. Anyone else thats been there say in the last 2 months????

We ate there on February 3. It was good, but nothing outstanding. We ordered five appetizers to split between three women- it ended up being more than enough food. But... $10 for three garlic shrimp? A bit on the pricey side for what you're getting.

The sangria was excellent, as always- I recommend the pitcher size!

We went end of Nov 2005 and won't be back. With such a limited menu you would think the food would be amazing but it was just okay. Prices seemed very high to us for just sub-par food. We ate at Artist Point for just a slightly higher cost and much better food.

We had breakfast at Spoodles on Dec. 27. Service and food were both excellent. I'm glad I tried the Eggs Rotollo. It was different in a very good way. Yum!!!

I agree with SqueakyMouse- Spoodles breakfast is very good! We often meet friends who live in Central Florida for breakfast there.

A lot of people were Po'd because they Pared the menu. last September or so. Well I made a thread where we investigated the matter. We determined that they dumped the pork chop, which only 1 person that answered the thread had ever even ordered, and they axed the Gnocci. We didn't get it but the hostess when I called along with others on these boards said it can be had by asking for Vegetarian. They were serving it with mixed veggies instead of the risotto it used to come with (which was made with meat broth)
Among the appetizers, they took off the deep fat fried squid. Now how deep fat fried squid ever got to be associated with fine dining is beyond me but it did. To me deep fried squid belongs at the Smorga Bobs or fish night at Ryans. No big Loss to me. So on the advice of some on this board that loved it, we decided to go. Boy were we glad we did.

The menu isn't all that varied. There were only 6 things on it not including the Vegetarian stuff. We decided to eat family style. Among the appetizers we got two of the shrimp appetizers and a 4 cheese flatbread Pizza and the Dips. The shrimp were wonderful but were small in portion. If I were paying and not on the dining plan, I'd have been disappointed at the portion for the price. But the Mediteranean Dips and the Pizza were wonderful. One can make a meal out of those if one's on a budget. Yum Yum.
For entrees, we decided to get several and split em.
I got the steak with the shrimp and the scallop add ons. Curiously, the scallops didn't make the rounds. they were sooo good I ate em up. Perfectly done. The shrimp were perfectly done also, but a HEY!!!! got them passed. By the way, Spoodles allowed the add ons on the plan. We didn't have to pay for them!!! The Steak was ordered medium rare and the waiter verified that I knew what I was ordering. It came out perfect. It was a NY strip of fine quality. It's not as melt in your mouth as a filet, but close.
The little one got the kid's steak. It came out as ordered also (Medium) and was superior to the kid's steak at the Cali Grill.
Another in the party ordered the Rigitoni with shrimp add on. The scallops could have been added too but she's allergic to scallops. It was wonderful. Some of the best I've had.
The crown jewel though was the seafood stew. Can't get the add ons with that of course. If you hate spicy foods, do not get it. It does carry a bit of a zing. Not too much though. It was wonderful.
The Portions were generous. If we weren't on the plan, we could have gotten by on one order of dips and would not have to have ordered the kid's steak and we wouldn't have paid for the add ons.
It was really good.

If you want quiet, this isn't the place for you. It is fairly loud, but certainly no louder than your average Disney restaurant. We rated its food #1 and overall #2 behind Cali Grill (can't compete with the view and wishes) for the places we went.

Cannotwait4Disney,

Can you tell me when you went???? Has it been recently?

We were there in December and it is was great. We've been going since '97/'98 and make it a "not to miss" restaurant. I think it's a great place!

(Big open room and can be noisey if full).

We haven't been there for dinner all that recently, but about a year ago it was mediocre, if that. And, service took forever. When it first opened it was awesome, the menu was also quite different. But, the menu has been similar for the past 7 yrs and it's only been "ok", however for some reason it's good at breakfast? Different chef?? Don't know but we like breakfast here. :lmao:

The review is mine from October.

Here's some more recent on Deb's site.

I should add I had Sangria which was great. My wife had a mixed drink. It was blue and delicious. I thought the drinks were priced a bit on the expensive side but not too much and certainly not for Disney.

We were there last month. I thought everything was excellent. The garlic shrimp appetizer was very good. The sangria was also really good and the shrimp fettucini was some of the best I ever had. What also made our visit so wonderful was our server. Our waitress was really top notch. We will be going back next month when we are there. :)

We last ate at Spoodles in December 2005 and enjoyed very much. I had the Salmon and my wife had the Rigatoni pasta and we both enjoyed our dinners.

Totally agree regarding the shrimp appetizer. Not the one to get if you're ordering appetizers and paying out of pocket. I'd have been more than a bit upset had I paid $10 for that. But it was delicious. I was on the meal plan and the size of the appetizer didn't bother me in the end because the entree and the desert was more than enough to fill us up.

Glad to read that the reviews I've read previously, indicating Spoodle's demise, were premature. We'll have to check it out again next year. Thanks!

I haven't been there in a year. Always loved this restaurant for breakfast and dinner.

We ate there in October of last year and it was our favorite meal. We will definitely be back. The menu is "small" but everything we tried was delicious! We especially loved the Mediterranean dips appetizer. Months later I'm still thinking about it!

We ate their in January of this year and found the menu choices very limited, and the service fairly poor. The food was decent, but this wouldn't be on my list to visit again. We had the dining plan, so the cost wasn't an issue, but again, the food choices were limited.
