Has anyone eaten at Yak & Yeti's counter service?

My DH and I are going in September and have made our ADR's for our table service but wanted to try this place for a counter service... has anyone eaten there? What did you think?

We ate CS at Yak and Yeti on 5/1. DH, DD15 and I each ordered different entrees so we could share. We had the sweet & sour pork, shrimp lo mein and kung pao beef. We enjoyed all 3. DD15 liked the beef best. The portions were large. We were on the dining plan so we each had a drink and frozen lemonade for dessert. DD6 loved the shrimp lo mein even though she had a happy meal from restaurantosaurus earlier.:rotfl:

They have chicken fried rice or 2 eggrolls as a snack credit which was great!

We wouldn't go back to this one. The food wasn't gross or anything, it was fine but it's not what we expected. We love Asian food and were disappointed when the chicken in our meals was like popcorn chicken and chicken nuggets.

We had the sweet & sour chicken and the crispy (or crunchy?) honey chicken. I expected the lovely little pieces of tempura battered chicken like we get at home, not hard little pieces of popcorn chicken. The portions are pretty good here though and we did like our egg rolls. We didn't hate it, just wouldn't eat there again.

The food didn't taste bad, just wasn't exactly what we wanted (or expected). We will try the table service version next time as I think that will be more to our liking.

Also, I don't know if it's because it's newer or what but this was the slowest counter service I have ever been to. It took over 30 minutes just to order our food and there weren't that many people in front of us. Then it took about 10 more to actually get the food. I saw several people coming back because they had items missing from their orders. That didn't happen to us, I just observed it. One lady that was standing next to me said she waited about 40 minutes (like me) and then had items missing, that's frustrating. Hopefully they were just having an off day because AK was super packed that day but we just didn't care for it.

We like it, it was standard chinese take out but a nice change from burgers and fries. The eggrolls and chicken fried rice were what I remembered being good.

sounds like standard chinese take-out - we'll keep it in mind at AK as a change from burgers & fries though!

I ate there on Friday. Shrimp lo mein, orange chicken, kung pao beef, and chicken nuggets (6 of us). The only thing I was not crazy about was the fried rice that came w/ the meals. The portions are huge so you can probably order one meal between 2 people and split it.

They gave you fried rice with your meals? When we ate there on the 4th they gave us white rice with our meals. We saw that fried rice was a side dish but white rice came with the meals. Did you ask for a substitution? Just curious because we like either but would have preferred fried rice over the white.

I agree with this entire post. We ate here in February and DH has FORBIDDEN us to go back. We had the popcorn chicken in our dish as well and they could not for the life of them figure out how to deduct our credits from the dining plan even with a manager standing there! Use only in an emergency is my advice.

We got white rice w/ the shrimp lomein and fried rice w/ everything else.

We liked it. It isn't our favorite, but it was fine. The portions were huge. My kids loved the Shrimp Lo Mein and had plenty to share. My mom had an eggroll and said it was greasy. We also liked the beef dish. We didn't try any chicken dishes, so I can't comment.

Have a good trip!!

My family liked it a lot. The chicken dishes are very much like mall chinese food which was ideal for our picky eaters. Someone described it as popcorn chicken and it was similar in texture to that which is actually a step up from some of the soggy mall chicken dishes we have seen ;) The kung pao was nicely done and plenty of hot peppers. All our dishes had white rice. The mango pie though prepackaged was tasty and a nice change in pace from the other prepackaged cakes. Portions are large and easily shareable. They also have nice choices for kids meals for kids who like chicken nugget type stuff or asian food.

My DD and I ate there in March. I was very impressed with how fast our food came up. We had the shrimp lo mein ... expensive, but good. As others have stated, you get quite a bit ... lots of shrimp too.

Nice change from sandwiches and fries.

Our family had CS lunch there on Christmas Eve.
We liked it enough that we've made an ADR there for TS dinner this summer.

Well, this one is pretty divided. It will be a nice change from burgers/fries or bbq.

Somewhere I read that they serve your food in actual chinese takeout containers? Is this true?

Yes. Our CS lunch on Christmas Eve came in those containers. (I just checked our pics in my scrapbook!)

Okay so it is the small things in life that make me giddly - I have never eaten out of one of those containers. That might make it an experience!!! :rotfl:

I have to admit that the chinese take out containers were a nice touch. Very cute. :thumbsup2

I'm surprised to hear so many people compare it to their local chinese take out places. I guess we are lucky because our local places are way better, hence the disappointment in Y&Y.

I say if you are just looking for a break from burgers then go ahead and give it a try. It's definitely better than a wdw cs burger and with all the info you've been given here you know what to expect. :)
