Anyone eat at SERG Restaurants at HHI lately?

It’s not just the Serg restaurants doing the cash discount. I meant to add earlier that Cahill’s Market in Bluffton also gave a cash price.
They are not giving a discount for cash they are charging an extra fee if you pay with credit card.

I wish I had the receipt to Skull Creek Boathouse. Here's what we ordered:
Royal Sampler: $37.75
Fried Oysters app: $14.25
Fried Shrimp app: $12.50
Soft drink: $3.50
Snickers dessert: $10.00
Subtotal: $78
The total was $84.24. That would make sense if there was an 8% tax.
$78 plus $6.24 tax = $84.24.
The cash price was $81 something.
So it seems to me that the cash price was a discount.

Basically, the restaurant is charging you the 3.5% credit card processing fee. If you pay cash then no processing fee.

Did hhi switch to 10% tax in 2023?
I noticed the cash room tax for dhhir went up in 2023.

I don't know. I thought it was always 6%. But I know restaurants and hotels can charge more than that.

I don't understand this. If they are charging a fee, wouldn't my balance due have been higher than my subtotal plus tax? Instead my cash price was less than the total of my food with tax.

They are assuming that everyone is going to pay with a credit card; so when someone pays with cash, they take off - a give a discount equal to - the 3.5% processing fee. There's a local ethnic grocery store near me that does this. I try to pay cash if I remember, but I usually forget. They have great prices to start with; so I don't mind.

So it's a discount for paying cash rather than an added surcharge for using a credit card. To me, that is different. If you use a credit card, you are paying what you are being charged for your food. If you pay cash, you are paying less. That's what I was getting at.

It's getting confusing to me, but lots of merchants in MD are moving away from cash. Some are exclusively cashless transactions. But then to hear that you are charged more for using a CC, doesn't fit with that strategy. I know some home improvement contractors are offering discounts for CASH, but I'm always torn on larger purchases, because I like the CC Points on my Disney Visa!! Where will this madness end ???
BTW - plan to go back to HHI in 2023/2024 (have only been there once, and we were iced over the whole time)
What are these SERG restaurants everyone is referring to ??
I know in WDW, we seek out the Landry's chain, because they have a a large presence, large variety, and a good loyalty program, & I don't believe they charge any extra for using CC.

Every place that I have gone to where I live adds the 3%-4% on top of the cash price when using a credit card. If they are doing like you showed giving the discount instead of adding the surcharge I would be ok with that. Credit card surcharges are a cost of doing business and should be built into the prices like everything else.

Potayto, potahto. It's however it makes more sense to you.

We just got back from our October HHI trip. Something that was different is that the SERG restaurants are no longer doing the discount if paying with cash instead of credit card. Just thought I would share in case you didn't know.

Thank you for updating. I hadn't read this thread before today and I truly get annoyed with these types of practices, especially when they are disclosed when it is time to pay.

My next trip will be at Thanksgiving. We are looking forward to it. I've been going there since 1997. We were there end of March for an overnight, but this will be a 5 night visit before continuing on to Disney World.

Thanks for the update. DH doesn't usually carry a whole lot of cash on vacations, now he won't at HHI. We still have to bring cash at Cape Cod, though, where several restaurants don't take credit cards, only cash!
