how was the drive? how long did it take you? and was it worth it to drive or would you have rather flown?
we always fly but fare war has ignored Houston this year:( for later during the winter months. I am planning a second trip for December for 10 days and am wondering how was your driving trip? Just got back from 2 weeks at disney and I am already planning a winter vacation. So looking at ways to save and driving was an option?
ideas???:)

We drove the first time we went in 1995. If I am not mistaked it took us about 22 hours of driving. We stopped just over the Florida state line and stay at a hotel, on the way back I forget where we stopped. For us it's not worth the savings because we basically loose 4 days of vaction in the drive, and since we own our own business we loose alot more than we save in airfares. It only cost us about $1000 for 4 r/t tickets from DFW. I am glad we drove once. There are some boring and desolate areas on the highway on the way I forget but I think that was along I-10.

We drove from Oklahoma last year and it took us 24 hours. We did divide it into 2 days of course but it was a very pleasent drive.

We drive from Lafayette, LA. It takes us between 11 and 12 hours to get to WDW. Houston is about 3 1/2 -4 hours from here so I would think you would have between a 15-16 hour drive. The drive is not that bad as we leave here at 6 AM and get to WDW before dark, 7 PM at the latest, with the time change.

We just follow I-10 to I-75 south. We then get on turnpike but take the Clermont exit. It's about an hour from that exit and we by-pass Orlando.

We drove in June 2000. It wasn't to bad...I'd rather drive EAST to WDW than WEST to CA. We left here (3 hours west of Houston) about 3am. Stopped in Marianna FL at the Hampton Inn after about 15 hrs, then drove about another 5 or 6 into WDW. Once you leave Texas there are pretty nice rest areas (for the most part) conveniently spaced along the way.

We left Disney about 9am and stopped in Baton Rouge LA on the way home.

I like flying better, but we'll be driving again in January, as one of our guests is unable to fly because of sever ear problems.

We don't drive too often, but if air is too expensive, I don't have a problem driving.

i really want to fly but rates are not good from houston. I may have to drive. The only thing is I might wait and see if rates go down. Southwest hopefully will come out with their rates past Dec 8. If not then maybe there is hope with priceline.;)
