We're leaving for the World on Saturday and taking I-75 from Ohio to Florida. Does anyone know if there are any construction areas to look out for? I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! Thanks!

I'll cover Kentucky. I recently drove up to a Reds game, so I covered about 80% of the state's portion of I-75 in this trip. There were no major construction areas going on. Keep in mind that there is a statewide initiative to 6-lane any portions of I-75 that are still 4-lane. But all that involves, and only in 5 or 6 mile stretches here and there in northern and extreme southern Kentucky, is those concrete barricades, narrow shoulders and a speed limit reduction to 55. However, when I drove up to Cincy the other day, I'm not sure we can across any areas where the barricades were up. If there's any 6-laning going on, it's probably still in the rock removal phase along the sides of the road, which shouldn't affect traffic at all. 511 in Kentucky is VERY good at giving construction information, and even accident information if one is major enough to close lanes for more than 15 minutes or so.

Two places that always frustrate me about I-75 in Tennessee are Knoxville and Chattanooga. No offense to Tennesseans, but it just seems like there are constant construction barricades, etc. in those two cities. I hope they've completed some of this for our upcoming trip in October.

There has been construction as you go into TN from KY, going towards Jellico, TN. Also about 20 miles north of Knoxville, around the Clinton TN area they have been working on bridges North and South. It can get backed up past the Caryville, Lake City exits. I travel this way every day to work and there is no way to predict the traffic backup. Hopefully you won't have a problem. Many days it's clear. I haven't been south of Knoxville in a while, can't help you there. I know the construction around Chattanooga was better in June, no problems going to Atlanta then.

I tend to agree, construction around Knoxville always takes FOREVER to complete.

I don't doubt this, as extreme southern Kentucky is one of the last remaining areas not already 6-laned. They're probably 6-laning this stretch now.

The good thing about construction in this area is that it's an extremely rural area, and it's not like you'll have a ton of local traffic here using 75 as their commuting road, like you have in more urban areas. I assume the speed limit will drop to 55 here, but you probably won't have any "parking lot" time on this stretch of road.
