Anyone ever driven from New Orleans?
We are leaving in 11 days! We have been told it is 10 hours and now I have people telling me no way we will make it under 11-12! Just curious.

I looked at Map Quest and it said 10 but wanted real world advice.

640 miles all on intersate and Turnpike, should very easily make it in 10 hours.

My drive is 690 miles. If I am just driving my vehicle and stick to 75MPH or less, I can get there in 11 hours. If I pull the camper, and stay at about 65 - 68MPH it takes me 13 hours.

Looks like your major cities are Mobile, Pensacola, and Tallahassee. As long as you don't hit them at rush hour times, you should be fine.

We drove once from Pensacola to Orlando, and it took us about 8 hours total. Drove from Pensacola to Lake City late at night, then continued from Lake City the next morning.

We have driven through New Orleans from Fort Worth on our way to Disney. It is a twenty hour drive for us. I would say 10 to 11 hours is about right. We went through Mobile at rush hour and that slowed us down. And in 2006 there was hurricane damage to the bridges, I think around Pensacola, and that slowed us down.

Have a great trip!

Since you will have to stop a few times, I think 11-12 hours is more realistic. And keep this in mind for your eastbound trip: there is a time zone change at the Apalachicola River between Marianna and Quincy. So no matter how long the drive actually is, it will be an hour later on your watch.

I drove from Hammond in 9 1/2 hours, but I have a heavy foot and older kids that understand stopping for Gas means use the restroom and get your food and snacks. :car::hourglass
