I got a coupon in the mail for Herbal Essence brush in highlights. Whenever I've done my own haircolor it always pulls red. Has anyone tried this product? Do you know if it will actually pull blonde or if it will pull like all the other color in a box products?

I think if it is red that means that you didn't leave it on long enough. If you leave it longer it should go to blonde. (Advice compliments of a true beauty school drop out!)I've never done my own, but lots of my friend do and I don't really see much difference. I just got mine done today and it cost $$$. I might try to do it myself next time.

I've uses the herbal essence haighlighting kit and it turned my hair really auburn in color.. really was'nt worth it..... last night we did my moms with loreal highlighting kit and she says it just really turned her hair more blond than normal... we have had no luck with these store bought kits...

If you don't put enough of the mixture on or you wash it out too quickly or it dries, the color can come up red. I buy the professional stuff at Sally's for my highlights. I have generally had limited success with over the counter stuff.

did it--way too blonde and didn't wash out. I grew them out and cut them out, enduring lectures from stylists the whole time. cheaper, but looks cheaper too, imo.

I highlight my own hair, but Herbal Essence highlights are the worst. I didn't even leave it on the reccommended length of time, and it turned my streaks practically white. It looked a bit ridiculous, and I had to go buy Natural Instincts (semi-permanent) in dark blonde just to try to cover it up a little bit.

I like L'Oreal Hairpainting, or Feria highlights the best.

I used these on my DD who is a dark brunette. They came up more caramel looking but they were not nice looking. I wouldn't do it at home again.

I just did mine the other day...I used Garnier Nutrisse and they came out just like I wanted them. I am blonde but color my hair to cover gray. I tried a new color this time around and didnt like how it came out. It was really "flat" looking and darker than I like. Instead of waiting for it to grow out I thought some light blonde highlights may perk it up. They are subtle, but they did just what I wanted. I will say it was a pain in the butt to do. That little brush they give you didnt seem like the best tool in the world.
