Hi All,

I am looking for anyone who has done the personal training onboard the Magic. My husband and I have both reserved a spot and would like to know what to expect.

Any information would be helpful.

We are also both booked for the fitness assessment and body composition analysis if anyone has any info on that.

Thanks!:yay:

I met the trainers and decided not to do this. It costs twice as much as personal training at home. My gym does the body composition analysis free (I did attend an info session about it).

Guess I'm just cheap--I work out on the ship but do the services at home.

Was the price the only reason you didn't do it? I'm just asking because you mentioned that you met the trainers I wanted to be sure you didn't have a problem with the trainers themselves.

We have a home gym and therefore wanted to treat ourselves so the price isn't an issue.

I did 2 personal training sessions with Peter on our most recent cruise. I elected to focus on Pilates and the Pilates reformer. Peter is a former gymnast & ballet dancer so he really knows what he's doing. I got a really good workout and he was tough without making me feel like a weak idiot. I did not take the spinning class, but saw him teaching it, and he is very motivating. I took his pilates class. In the classes, he and the other instructor (I think his name was Brian) really take an interest in each participant, making sure they are doing things correctly & motivating them. If you do a regular personal training session with him (not pilates) I'm sure he is very good with that also. During my 2nd session, he did the body composition. Just a warning - usually they try to sell you herbal pills to "detoxify" your body. I was lucky & didn't really get the sales pitch.
I definitely thought the personal training was worth it. Where I live nobody really knows how to do Pilates the correct way, especially on the Reformer.
I did one session in 2007 on the Magic, but the trainer was a different person, and he didn't really appear to know much about Pilates, so it was not worth it as much. In 2005 on the Wonder I did 2 sessions and the trainer's name was Melissa and she was very good.

Have fun!

I did a session with Brian on our last cruise in October. Unlike a previous poster, the price was the same I would have paid for a Personal Trainer back home. I found Brian very helpful. He laid out a decent work out plan for me based on my specific needs, wrote it up for me in a way I would be able to understand and use it and left it in my stateroom.

Well that sounds encouraging gometros! Perhaps we'll keep the personal training but scrap the BCA tests. I am not interested in a bunch of supplements or fighting off a sales pitch.

Thanks for all your help guys.

Oh one more thing do you pay extra to join the classes or is it that you just show up and hope there is room for you?

Cheers!

I asked this and got no replies before my cruise!

All very interesting, I did not want to be pinned down to a time for a personal trainer.

I done the spinning classes, very very good, I done a half marathon a week beofre I went but I struggled to do the spinning class, trainers on the magic were so good and so nice.

I did three sessions with a trainer on the WB TA - a 14 day cruise. I asked for weight training, general strengthening and some cardio and the trainer was very good. He made me work harder than I would on my own.

There was no sales pitch at all. It was good chance to become familiar with the equipment as it is somewhat differnt than what I am used to.

There is a reduced price when you book three sessions and it was less than my gym charges.

You do not pay extra for the class sessions (they are taught by the trainers, but are not part of the private training stuff.) However, there is a sign up for them. You must sign up in advance--like on the first day. On one cruise, several of the classes canceled because there was not enough interest. Spinning usually fills up.

If the class is "full" when you try to sign, list yourself as "waiting list." I just wrote my name and cabin number at the bottom of the list with a note to call me if a space opened. Then at class time, show up. If there is a "no show," they'll let you participate.

I have to tell you, even though Brian did try to push their anti toxin products, it was not a hard sell and as soon as I said I wasn't interested, he dropped it. I've found the same thing with the massages. They wll try to sell their products, but will not push.

I returned only 3 weeks ago and did not do this, first come first serve was the name of the game, nobody told me otherwise? Only a few for the spinning classes though.
