Just wondering what the ride is like. Does it cause motion sickness? Any drops or thrills?
Thanks!!!

Soarin is great! It is 3 rows of suspended seats that then are lifted up so that one row is above another suspended (like being on a playground swing with a high back but you are buckled in!). You are in front of a HUGE IMAX screen and the movie that plays includes several different scenes of California. The seats swing back and forth slightly and there are effects like wind and aromas to make you feel like you are really "soaring over California".

I have ridden it several times and it has never made me motion sick (and I get car sick quite easily!). No drops or anything like that at all.

This is one of the best rides at DCA! I cant wait until it comes to WDW!

:)

It's a terrific ride. Beautiful scenery, nice and smooth and yet quite exciting for what I'd consider a non-"thrill" ride-- it feels like you're really "soaring" over the CA landscape. I didn't experience motion sickness, and I am prone to it (can't do Star Tours, Body Wars without feeling ill). Soarin' might not be for those who are afraid of heights though, as the design of the ride vehicle (the "hang glider") is in 3 rows, starting horizontally for seating and then they swing up and stack vertically for the ride portion. Those in the top row are pretty high off the ground. Also, the film itself gives the illusion of great heights. Only thing I wasn't crazy about were the jump cuts in the footage. It can kinda take you out of it for a split second. Otherwise, it's fantastic.

I agree with other posters. Only if you are afraid of heights will this ride give you a hard time. It is definitely worth experiencing.

Soarin' is our favorite ride at DCA... I was so glad no one SPOILED it for me before riding it. Whenever we take someone on it for their first time, we are very careful not to even hint at anything.

It's really overwhelming...sensory overload! :)

...We go to DL every couple weeks....going again this Monday (8/16) with a couple of friends and thier 4-year old daughter, who are missionaries to southeast Asia... They asked me about DCA and Soarin' (read about it in the DL www site). All is said to him was that I would be sure we got them on it and that they would love it!

DCA sure is wrought with problems...Soarin' is one of its (few) redeeming qualities!

:)

I agree with everyone above --- absolutely LOVE it!! I was so thrilled to hear it was coming to EPCOT - can NOT wait!!

I have ridden Soarin' quite a few times. It is a really pleasent ride though I personally think it more of a good D-ticket. In any case, I get motion sick pretty easy and there are a couple parts that can get the queaziness started but I close my eyes for a few seconds and it is okay. The worst part is toward the end... (SPOILERS)...

....when the scene cuts to the military ships at San Diego be prepared to close your eyes for 5-8 seconds as there is a swooping, turning motion the camera does that can really cause trouble for those of us suceptable to motion sickness.

This is a wonderful ride, and very unique. I liked it because it was thrilling enough for thrill seekers, but tame enough that anyone could ride. It is a very unique ride experience, I am glad they are bringing this to EPCOT.

I only got to ride it one time, but man it is an awesome ride! The footage really showcases the beauty of California.

Others have explained it so I won't. I just wanted to mention that I get pretty bad motion sickness and Soarin' at DCA did not bother me.

Soarin' is absolutely awesome!! We rode it in July and it's just amazing. Will the one in WDW be the same, or will they re-do it as Soarin' over Florida, or Soarin' over America?? Does anybody know?

It is suppose to be the exact same one as in California though there were rumors that a new ending may have been filmed. Supposedly they will change it out to a new film in a couple years.

The entire family including my 5 yr old son could not get enough of it, the higher speed IMAX style film gives great visuals. Definitely a do not miss attraction.

:bounce: :Pinkbounc

I have not gotten sick on this, and I'm prone to motion sickness, but I have seen others get sick on it.

I am very afraid of heights, but never had a problem on this one. You're sitting and strapped in.... I never had that "I'm going to fall!" feeling once. I got a little dizzy once or twice but found that just looking off to the side away from the screen for a second or two helped.

This is definately DCA's best attraction. We love it! And if the line is really long and FP is gone, do single rider. It is awesome! Love the smells that go along with it. We ride this at least three times every trip. And...have never seen anyone sick or having any motion sickness problems.

Hey! Nice to see you on the DL boards Dan:), your post was a pleasant surprise. I am on the DL boards pretty much daily, cannot help myself:rolleyes:

It is our favorite ride at DCA, as well. We always have to do it 3 or 4 times using the single rider line.
