So this whole family style dining thing is new to me. I'm going SOLO in January and have seen the menus for Liberty Tree Tavern and O'hana and Whispering Canyon Cafe and would love to try some of these. I don't really care if people see me with an entire skillet full of food that one person probably could never eat. I'm curious about the set up - how does this work? Do I sit by myself and eat out of a huge skillet? Sounds pretty reasonable... Anyway, can anybody shed some light on what solo dining experience might be like at one of these places? Thanks!

Working off the pounds before I even go! :yay:

They will bring an amount which should be sufficient for you. If you want more (of anything or everything) they will keep bringing things.

I'm planning on trying O'hana by myself. I normally eat there every trip but with the family, so this will be a little different. But I really enjoy the food there so I'm willing to give it a try by myself.

have eaten breakfast skillet at WCC - they only brought enough for one person. not the whole family thing they generally do.

still put in the same place- very silly (my opinion) when there is only one person...

I've eaten at LTT solo, and they gave me a plate with all the food. Rolls came first, salad, then the main meal. Here is a pic of the salad, and food.

So they give you quite a bit of food....service was great everywhere i dined, which included LTT, Le Cellier, & Mama Melrose. For the characters at LLT, they were super nice and very attentive, and even my waiter took pictures of me with the characters.

Planning trip for next May, i get to make my ADR's tommorrow!! I will be eating at Le Cellier dinner, Mama Melrose lunch and dinner, Kona dinner, and CRT dinner. I wouldnt think twice about eating by myself, plus i always bring a little notebook to write in.

Anyway, you will have a blast!!! Have a GREAT Trip!!

I dined at Ohana last month for my solo trip...I love Ohana's and my family and I are going back there in February...with that said...of all the restaurants I ate at by myself...this was the most awkward. They brought out as much food as if there were three or four

I agree with jordancej about LTT. I went there 2 years ago before MVMCP as a solo and the service was terrific. The food was a bit more than I could eat, but it was very good. As much as I hate to waste food, I appreciated the fact that they brought out a bit more than I wanted. I guess that I'm glad that they didn't skimp since I was "just a solo". Ya know?

Was at LTT alone and the first night i went gave me the plate with everything was not happy about that so tried again and informed the waiter that i wanted turkey steak and stuffing with mashed and got only that was happy i went back again at the end of the trip last night actually

yeah, could totally see how that could be awkward, as they probably wouldn't cut down the things in the small bowls they bring at the beginning. But that wouldn't stop me from eating there, yummm! Of course they'd carve you however much meat you wanted though!
