We will be in WDW for 10 days this Oct and are trying to do some stuff other than Disney.

We will do 1 day at Seaworld
half day in Ocala at Don Gartlits Drag Racing museum

We were looking into a swiming/snorkeling with Manatee's ( I think around Homossa ). We know that the begining of Oct is not the 'best' time for the manatees. Anyone done a good tour? Our daughter wanted to go kyaking in the Mangroves but I think that will be to long of a drive.

Hello!

I live very close to Homosassa and my daughter (with her school) has snorkled/swam with the Manatees there and LOVED it! This is located in an Animal Reserve park that is exclusively for injured animals that cannot be returned to the wild. The spring where the Manatees live is always 72' (brrrrrrrr). The school where my daughter attends has wet-suits and their own snorkeling equipment so I don't know if the park offers wet suit rental. Here is a link to the park's web site: http://www.floridastateparks.org/homosassasprings/default.cfm

There are some wonderful restaurants inthat area that sit out on the water. October is a great time to visit! We have great weather that time of year.

Have a great time!

We snorkelled with the manatees a few years ago and it was great - but if you're a manatee fan I also sugest you go visit Snooty. He is in the South Florida museum, somewhere close to Tampa. He;s the oldest mantee in captivity, he's been there since he was a baby (he's about 60 odd). If you get there about 11am they do a talk, and he gets fed which is like nothing you've ever seen before, he's so tame, he comes out of the water. Do a search on snooty and you will see pics of him - I am now obsessed.

Thank you both for the Information.

We are looking for some things other than Disney since my hubby really does not like WDW :scared1: ( he only goes because DD and myself love it , what a good Hubby :) ). I think this sounds like fun also I think we might do a day at a State Park near Tampa ( can't remember name right now but I have it written down ) the one with the canopy walk in the trees.

We will be at POP for 8 full days and 2 half days so we are planning on doing 2 or 3 days of Non-Disney stuff
