though I will totally have at least one cinnamon roll from Main Street Bakery on my trip.

Several years ago, I gave it a whirl. . . I had been on the Atkins diet for several months-----and was still at the Induction level (of 20 carbs). I was a little gun shy and found myself eating an awful lot of chicken caesar salads?! I remember the half a chicken at Cosmic Rays Starlight Cafe----and eating the green beans (my husband took the potatoes). A brautwurst with saurkraut at Sommerset (Germany). . .there are other entree type salads---chef, greek, blt at various locales. . .I requested a 'scoop' of tuna salad at Columbia Harbor House to add to my salad (as they offer a tuna sandwich there)----and they did that easily enough.

There are options. . .with careful planning. Of course depending how lo-carb you follow will affect your choices.

I'm not sure if you are simply asking (as you wrote)-----who else has done it? Or. . .how do-able is it? . . .as far as choices, variety, etc.

If the latter. . .best to check out the menus and get an idea of where the best choices are so you're prepared. . .

If the former. . .yup, have done it! (and lost weight while on vacation!?) :woohoo:

I'm doing low carb now. South Beach- not Atkins. My trip is in a few weeks. I wasn't doing low carb last year. I think it is definitely do-able. But I do think it is going to get boring and there will be LOTS of temptation. There are grilled chicken salads on every menu. Plus baked chickens, burgers and BBQ pork with no buns.

What I am asking myself now is how strict I am planning to be and what I am going to allow myself. There are a few desserts (for your sake, I won't mention them) that I am already dreaming about! We live in a culture where I cannot get good cakes, breads, etc and this will be our entry week back into USA, so I am thinking of telling myself to just enjoy the week and forget the guilt. Actually, after low carb for a few days, it just takes a few bites of something sweet to be satisfied, so I don't think I will totally go off the deep end. However, if you are doing Atkins, a little cheating will make more difference since there is more fat in that diet already. I still plan to avoid the bread and potatoes at meals and fill up on lots of veggies, but am not planning to deny myself desserts.

I'm at a healthy weight and activity level already. I am trying to lose 15 'vanity / 3 babies' pounds. If your health is really in trouble, you really need to stick with it while you are there so that all the cravings don't come back. In that case, I would tell myself I could have ONE treat for every 2-3 days I was there. That way I could have something to reward myself for sticking to it and I would not quit the diet altogether if I made a bad choice. Good Luck

Good Luck.

I generally am a low carb eater, have done Atkins, though currently in the "rest of your life" phase four of the hcg diet which allows me more fruit and the ability to throw in a few carby indulgences here and there more than Atkins ever allowed. But since I'm not sure how far you're able to go, I'll share my experience from when I was on Atkins in Disney...

Bun-less burgers you can do almost anywhere. If you have the ability to bring along "oopsie rolls" (google it if you're not familiar with it), you can then have your burger on your oopsie roll, which makes you feel more "normal." You can also do this with other types of sandwiches (as long as there's no sweet sauce like BBQ, and watch out for sandwiches on which melted cheese stick to the roll - those are frustrating!) A lot of places do fries or apples as a side, so obviously avoid the fries, but apples may be more doable, depending on your particular threshold.

Besides this, check out salads... Chicken salads were already mentioned. There were great make-your-own salads at ASMo that you could add tons of toppings to. I personally loved the taco salad (Pecos Bill's?) ... there's a topping bar there with lots of stuff you can top your salad with (or top your burger with, for that matter). I remember doing the Cosmic Ray's roast chicken (delicious!) with double green beans instead of a gb and a side of potatoes.

One good thing is that you do so much walking in Disney that you're likely to increase your carb count at least slightly without suffering. Consider sharing a "must-have" dessert here and there. Just don't go totally off track. Sf desserts may help keep the carb count lower too. The time I went on Atkins, over the course of a week, I had a few bites of potato, a couple sugar-free desserts, a bag of cheetos, and one really big ice cream shake that I thought would have completely killed my diet! When I got home, the scale was up just 1.5 pounds, and I lost all of that within four days of Atkins induction-style eating. Not too shabby!

Now that I've done the hcg diet though, I've actually had the experience of four straight days of disgustingly drastic carby binging, causing an 8-lb weight gain, and then doing four correction days to lose ALL 8 pounds! So I think for a short Disney trip, I could possibly just not worry about it - eat what I feel like, but just know I may be correcting it for a few days with strict guidelines when I return home.

So, do the best you can, but don't make yourself miserable! It is a vacation, after all! Just recognize you might have to be extra strict as soon as you return home.

Good luck to you! I admire you for wanting to stick to your diet in Disney. It shows commitment!
