This is suppose to be a great safari that includes a big African dinner at Jiko.

On our last visit, we wanted to go, but didn't want to leave our son alone and he's too old for a sitter (10).

What did you think of this tour?

I did it and it was one of the best experiences we've had. I just posted on another thread that I have some really great pictures but I don't know how to resize them to get them to upload to the community photos. I have Zoombrouser and everytime I try to upload it tells me that that photos are too large and I need to resize. If anyone could tell me what to do I'd be glad to post them. Anyway........we had eight people in our party but one of them was my son who was just 5 years old. Well we found out that if we bought out the entire safari (8 places) then we could bring any age child with us that we wanted.......so....my 5 year went too!! He loved it and so did everyone else in the party. We had a wonderfully long time on the three savannahs in a special covered but open air truck with a guide riding in the back with us. They really took their time and let us ask all the questions we wanted and told us great information about the animals and their care and training at the Lodge. Christopher was our guide and he was great. The animals were so close to the truck I couldn't believe it. The baby giraffe was adorable. At the end of the safari we had a small snack called a sundowner in the back of the truck. It consisted of a fruit juice and some dried nuts, berries, and dried meat. Then we were escorted into a semi-private room in Jiko and served a wonderful meal family style. It was some of the best food I've eaten there. We started with three different kinds of hummus and breads followed by an assortment of appetizers. We had the pork and duck firecrackers (VERY good), tamales, a lamb thingie and something else I can't remember right now. Then we were served three different entrees....oh my goodness. We had filet with white cheddar mac n cheese, the best halibut I've ever eaten and a roasted chicken dish. It was followed by two platters of dessert assortments. Wine was served with each dish to the adults that had been selected by the chef to accompany each course. Leta was our server and she was very attentive. We met at 3:45 in the concierge lounge and we were not done until around 7:30. It was one of the highlights of our 11 day trip.

We did it during our trip in March 03. It is the best money we've every spent on a vacation!

Being so close to the animals was wonderful! Karen, our guide, has been with WDW since the planning stages of AK and then moves to AKL. It was so interesting to hear her talk about the animals and their personalities.

And the meal at Jiko .. oh my gosh! We got to try so many of the menu items that we had wondered about.

Here are a few pics I took ..
