Anyone do multiple car rental reservations?

Wondering if anyone ever carries multiple car rental reservations and if there are any problems with doing so? I've got what I think is a decent rate on a minivan with National. But just found out we can join Emerald Aisle for free and so I was thinking that I would join and then make a second reservation with an intermediate on EA. If they have a minivan or full size SUV that seats 7, we'll take it and save some money. If not, we'll go with the minivan we've got reserved.

Will this work? Do I need to reserve one in my name and one in DH's to make it work? I'm not willing to gamble just on the EA, or lose my minivan reservation unless I'm allowed to put my sister in a luggage carrier on the top LOL!

When you sign up for the Emerald Club you are required to supply a credit card. When you reserve a car through National with your Emerald Club they will, of course, have your credit card on file. National has a cancelation policy where if you don't show for a reservation they can charge you a 'no-show' fee. I don't recall what it is for certain but I think it could be $50.00. Any rental company that requires a credit card can, and probably will, charge you if you don't show for a reservation. I am not as sure about their cancelation policy. I suppose it would be possible to cancel one reservation after you picked up the other.

I had multiple reservations once. One with Avis (Preferred and I usually get a nice upgrade) and one with National (Emerald Aisle). National does have a cancellation policy, and I think it states 24 hours but I'm not positive. Anyway, I checked the Aisle and it had nothing but intermediates, so I went over and took the car from Avis. I then called and cancelled my National reservation. I didn't get charged any no-show fee. Maybe I was lucky, but my guess is as long as you call and cancel (even same day) you may be ok.

Not sure how they will handle it if you have two cars reserved in your name with National.

Rent the size car you need. I have yet to see a van on the EA.
They can and will charge you 50.00 no show.

that they charge the $50. no show fee on ressies such as premiums, mini-vans, etc. If you look on your confirmation page it will say if that particular ressie would be charged a no show fee. If you need a mini van I would not take a chance on the EA. A few years ago I always got mini vans on the EA but lately that has not been the case for me. Now, I just reserve a mini van and skip the EA.

Thanks for the responses. I wasn't aware of the cancellation fee for EA reservations. I wasn't asked for a credit card to confirm my minivan reservation, so there isn't a cancellation fee with that one. I guess I won't be making an EA reservation unless I find out it can be done without losing $!

I would suggest that at 7 days out you make your choice and cancel the others. You could be holding a reservation that someone else needs and you have no intention of using.

If you went through EC to make that reservation, they already have your cc number.
