Anyone do AKV in the summer?

We are considering staying at AKV next summer (end of June - early July.) A friend who recently returned from a stay at AKV mentioned that in the heat it could start to smell. Have to say - I'd never really thought of that! My biggest concern about a summer stay at AKV had been that the animals wouldn't be doing much because of the heat. Not that they would stink! :-) But it makes sense.

Anyone care to share their thoughts on this one?

We stayed in a savanna view in early June '09 and I don't remember a smell. We sat out on the balcony quite a bit during that trip. If I remember right, it seems like they were constantly cleaning up after the animals. We, too, are considering a trip to AKV in late June or July of '12, so I will be interested in what others have experienced during those warmer times.

We go every September which is still as hot as June & July and have never noticed any odor from the Savanna. The animal care team goes out and cleans the Savannas.

We've stayed there a few times in the summer and there's never been even a hint of odor. And pre-DVC we always stayed on the second floor so we were as close as you could get to the animals. I wouldn't worry about it at all. And there are always plenty of animals on the savannah, heat or not. They're mainly native African species so are perfect for warm climates.

I'll be going at the end of Sept but but I don't think any thing can smell as bad as NYC in the summer I lived in NYC for 4 years and OMG in the summer when it pick up trash day it can smell real bad LOL

I went last year for the 4th of july and stayed in a Savannah view. I never noticed a smell. I was also with my mother in law who notices everything and she was fine as well. I would recommend it!

We stayed in a first floor one bedroom villa with a savanna view last year from the end of July to early August and there wasn't even a hint of odor and Disney was experiencing record heat during that time (mid to upper 90's with heat indexes well over 100). I enjoyed the balcony each morning, in the afternoons when we returned back from the parks, and each evening and I don't ever recall any smell at all.

The staff is great about cleaning up and putting out fresh browse throughout the day to encourage the animals to visit close to the villas. Don't worry about any animal odors (human odors is another story :rolleyes1) and enjoy your stay at AKV. We found it to be very relaxing and enjoyable and I'm sure you will as well.

Have a magical day!

I stayed there in June 2009 and didn't notice a smell. One morning we saw a couple of keepers out on the savannah and their job was to "pooper scoop".

I've also stayed in the heat of September, and no smell. Last year I saw some animal poop on the savannah one morning (saw, didn't smell). I was so amazed, I think those animals are house-trained, that I took a picture!

Good thing I got a quick picture. A half hour later, the morning "poop patrol" came around (now there's an interesting WDW job) and the poop was gone.

We have stayed there June, July and August and never had a problem with smell from the animals, either at Jambo House or Kidani. As the pictures show they have folks come by several times a day to clean-up after and feed the animals so its a pretty clean place.

This is a big rumour, as far as I'm concerned, as we've stayed at AKV several times during the summer months, and no smell at all.

Our next trip is 11 days in July! Tiger :)

and I have a very sensitive nose.

We'll be going back to Kidani this June - can't wait!!

We did the Wanyama Safari in June so we were ON the savanna, in 92 degree heat, and there was not a single odor! Some of the animals were within 5 feet of our safari truck and we couldn't smell any stink.

I LOVE the smell at AKV! The cooking ovens at Boma make the whole place smell awesome!

Stayed Sept 2010. No smells...but never saw any animals either during the day (stayed Savannah view). It was WAY too hot for them to lay out. Boma smelled great walking thru the lobby :goodvibes

Never smelled anything but food cooking either. :)

But we have also decided not to spend points on the Savanna view in the hot Summer.
The animals we saw in February were incredible.
We save the Savanna View for the cooler months.

I have stay at AKV in August. No bad smell. Animals were out in early morning when they were being fed. I love to have my morning coffee out watching the animals. I saw less activity during the day but there were still some animals.

As far as the smell, I think some people think animals smell, expect to smell them, and then do.

Is it not a little strange that we would choose a place because we know animals are living there and then complain about a natural side effect. :rotfl:

:lmao:

Someone should start a poll to see how many Dis'ers now have this set as their wall paper.....

:surfweb:We will be there from July 10 - 18th, I never gave the "smell" a thought, Disney seems to do a great job cleaning around the parks, im not supprised that there is a Poop Patrol for the savanas:love:

Been in savannah view in July and January and no smell.

My 2 dogs at home probably smell more :lmao:
