Anyone checking into the Cabins at FW on July 1?

IS the distance from the 2300 or 2500 (or 2200) loop to the main bus stop for resorts walkable? Trying to get an idea of how far it is from the DVC cabins to the main bus stop.

It's walkable, but it's a bit of a distance. From 2300, you're walking around the entire cabins loop back to the main road, then turning right and going another few hundred feet. You're probably around 2/3 of a mile. If you were in 2800 loop, you'd be much closer - around 1/4 mile. The entire cabin loop road is just about 1/2 mile from one end to the other.

Laundry question - I have not seen any reports since the DVC cabins opened, but is laundry free at the comfort stations? I think it used to cost per load....hoping they get rid of that given this is now a DVC resort.

Has anyone taken a dog yet? Did they charge $30 per day or $50 per day?

We just checked in and the cabin is hot. The lowest you can set it is 68, which is fine, but we’ve been here an hour and it hasn’t gone below 79 degrees. Based on others experiences (faulty units, etc.), we are afraid to unpack!!

Aren't there two units? Are they both running?

I hope you don't have to move since I can't imagine there are open cabins available.

Not sure what AC system they're using in the cabins, but if it's the same as the newer Honeywell control panels used in many other DVC (like Saratoga Springs), there IS an override key sequence you can hit that will allow you to set the temp down to 65. You may have to repeat it each day, but it works well for me.
Of course, if yours is till at 79 even when set to 68, there may be an actual problem with the unit. If you hear it pumping and it's blowing air, but the air is room temperature, there may be a coolant issue - if it's not even blowing air at all, could be something else (overflow sensor in the pan, broken sender, dead fan, etc.

Update —— after 30 more minutes, the bedroom is down to 76. The living area, with all windows curtained and covered is now at 78. We are going to give it a little more time. I also think there might not be another cabin available!

They have 2 zone Mitsubishi mini split system. They work great and are very reliable. One thermostat in bedroom and second thermostat is in kitchen area.

Payment system is in place but ignore and push start … no charge

Final update on the a/c —— We had both thermostats set to 70. Bedroom cooled overnight to 72. (Super) The living area never got below 75. If temperature is important to you, I would definitely look into this. I think with 95 degree heat, even with every shade closed this cabin cannot keep up.

Call maintenance….. our cabin held thermostat set point with no problem during heat of the day. It should easily cool the cabin and cycle on/off.

I agree - you definitely need to call Maintenance.

The cabin area has 3 bus stops along its main road, Peacock Pass. Basically, there is a stop at each end and one near the middle (pool area).

There is a a bus stop at the entrance/exit of 2200 which is across from the EXIT of 2300 (it has separate entrance and exit for that loop). From the ENTRANCE of 2300 to the 2500 (middle) bus stop is 368' per google maps. The middle bus stop is a bean bag toss distance from the 2400, 2600, and 2500 loop entrance/exits of each loop.

So if you're on the far end half of 2300, no need to walk to the middle bus stop. The one at the 2300 exit road is just across Peacock Pass.

For future cabin reference, the other "end" bus station in the cabin loops is between the entrance/exit for the 2700 and 2800 loops.

Having stayed at Fort Wilderness 20 times in the last 20 years, the amount of incremental walking required to stay at FW is roundoff error when you consider the number of daily steps taken on a WDW vacation.

And a plus is that the cabin loops have 2 of the 3 internal bus lines running along Peacock Pass in both directions so bus services is twice as frequent for the cabins as it is for the camping loops.

Sorry I can't help with the AC issue.

Please call maintenance. We stayed in a cabin a few weeks ago and had no issues with the temperature.

(Even if you’re checking out, you’ll help out the next guest who stays in that cabin!)

Can any one confirm that the coffeemaker is a combo Keurig/drip? I would be nice to not have to travel with ours.
