I had asked this question earlier in the year, and thought I'd take another crack at it.
Are there any DVC members that have canceled or put off their DVC/WDW vacations this year because of the economy?
When I asked the question earlier, in the year, there seemed to be equal amounts of yes/no answers. Just curious if things have changed for anyone. I am reading that the new Towers are totally filled for 2009 dates.

No, still planning on going to WDW as usual, just not spending as much on souvenirs and other unnecessary expenses.:drinking1

Same for us.....trying to spend a little less on dining as well, maybe more counter service and less table....maybe:lmao:

Also, by no doing of our own, we find ourselves travelling in early January (last year and this coming year), due to our college age kids only being home at the same time for the holiday break late December to mid January. Other than that, they have no school breaks at the same time, and going in June is too hot for me! Therefore, flights are less than during February, Easter & Christmas break times.

No, not that we shouldn't be more cautious since you never know, but we're in the midst of planning two more trips to get more days out of our APs. After the APs are up, we'll probably cool it for a while and use our points at HH where we will drive to, and take a couple years off WDW.:scared1: We'll see how it works in practice compared to theory.

No huge change in our vacationing. We still plan on going as scheduled, maybe watching our expenses a bit more, but that's it.

No, we have not really altered our plans any this year. We purchased less on July trip but thats due more to baggage fee's by airline company...Shawnpirate:

We cancelled a non-Disney trip for next week.

And we downgraded our cabin for our cruise in January from at Cat 3 to a Cat 6. :sad1: We just decided we wanted to make sure we had all the cash to pay for it by the day our balance was due and with the Cat 3 it was going to be too much of a stretch - better to use that money for other things.

But in the big scheme of things, I guess that's not bad - a lot of people can't afford any vacation at all.

My plans have not changed at all. I even added another trip to what I had planned.

I'm not canceling my trip this year, but I did cancel last years trip. $4 gas and sky high air fare caused that trip to go. At this point I've bought tickets and most of the airfare purchased.

We had originally planned to go during the school break after Christmas. Airfares were sky high so we decided to move our trip up to the end of August which is when we've gone before. Airfares much lower and crowds have been less in the past when we've gone at the end of August. So, we haven't really cancelled our vacation due to the economy but we have changed it so that it costs us less money out of pocket. Owning DVC actually is what makes it possible for us to continue to vacation. If we had to pay $4000-$5000 just for the room, we wouldn't be able to go.

No change for us. Have 2 trips planned for this year, 1 for next and will be scheduling another one for next year.

We cut out a couple of non Disney trips, but we're still going twice this year. Now that we have our passes, the other costs are fairly minimal...mainly food.

2 trips coming up and no changes. *knock on wood**knock on wood*

We did. We just bought into BLT in March. we planned a first trip in Sept and a quick trip in dec to see the Christmas decorations. Then the reality of it caught up!! I just graduated from nursing school and am this week starting my new job. After lots of tears, I decided to do the "adult" thing and cancel both and do a week long one in Dec.

Congrats!! on Nursing school and getting a job! Just graduated last yr myself!!
Sorry OP, back to your question. I am like DVC Mike, we have added another trip this year. Originally planned a trip in May but now added a trip in Nov. Cannot wait to go!!:cool1:

we did, backwards:upsidedowadded one on this Dec:woohoo:

had 2nd cruise planned this year, just decided that with the economy the way it is, possible flu issues & free diningpopcorn::; booking a moderate for a week & entire trip costing 2/3rd of planned trip was the way to go:thumbsup2

btw, there was no room @ DVC 'inn' for our 7 nights beginning of Dec, even if i had enough points left, as expected. My DS is using 'my' points to visit BLT the following week, lucky duck

The economy hadn't hit us and in early July we added an Oct. 3 night Disney trip to our existing Nov/Dec 6 nighter and Jan/Feb 6 nighter trip plans.

Then about a week ago we found out my wife will probably have to take a SERIOUS pay cut or loose her job. Details are still pending, change shouldn't take place until a project she is working on now is done (scheduled for the end of August). However, we are DVC members [though middle class, definitely NOT rich!] so our points are covering our rooms, we already purchased non-refundable (read cheap!) airline tickets and bought vouchers for our WDW annual passes. With those expenses paid for all that is left would be food, souvenirs and airline baggage fees + misc. tips. We are ABSOLUTELY planning to still go on all 3 trips:thumbsup2, but we might have to cut back some on table service meals and what we buy souvenir wise...
