Anyone care to share their pre trip grocery/shopping list

Hi,

a little over 2 more weeks before we go, we plan on going grocery shopping pre trip and these are the things we plan on buying. wanted to get some other ideas or see if we are missing some things.

case/s of bottled water
crystal light drink packets (that you mix in the bottled water)
granola/protein bars for snacking in the park
sunscreen/aloe vera
glow necklaces and lights that cost an arm and a leg IN the park
cereal/milk
disposable bowls/plates/spoons/cups/forks for hotel room etc....
sandwich bags to bring snacks in park (cheez its/pretzels/candies/chex mix/trail mix)
capri suns type drinks.....

anyone else care to share their lists

We take many of the things on your list, plus:
a few sodas for when DH gets tired of coffee or water
tea bags, also for DH
a tuna kit for younger DS in case we end up at a restaurant where he doesn't like the choices
one or two EasyMacs for the hotel room in case DS11 and DS9 haven't gotten enough to eat
apples
bananas
chapstick

I usually bring a loaf of bread and peanut butter. Water, milk, chips, some sort of sweet treat, string cheese and a few bananas. Oh and meds for every ailment known to man. I've been sick there before and finding the right thing isn't always easy unless you are willing to drive to Walmart or Target or pay really inflated prices at Disney. I usually bring Advil, Pepto, something for sunburn besides sunscreen, chapstick, something for heartburn, and a few bandaids in case of blisters.

A quick tip: if you're at Disneyland and find you are need of some sort of OTC remedy, ask at the Emporium on Main St. They keep a drawer behind the counter stocked with cold meds, headache and stomach upset medicines, etc. But you have to ask, it isn't on display. Just thought I'd throw that out there since I was on the subject.

Easy Macs is a good idea! I'll add that to my list.

The microwaveable snack cakes were a big hit last year with kids and adults alike. They are called "Warm delights" and made by Betty Crocker. It takes the cookies and milk snacktime to another level We then rinsed the bowls out and used them for goldfish and other snacks around the room.

Didn't know this. Another good headache tip: you can go to First Aid and get one dose of ibuprofen or, I think, acetaminophen, for free! Plus, you can get a band-aid if you need one. For kids, I think they only had ibuprofen. I usually carry my own of all those things, but once I was out of ibuprofen and remembered this First Aid tip.

If you have any way to keep your snacks insulated, you could also bring cheese sticks, yogurt (gogurt would travel nicely), or hard-boiled eggs.

Instead of bread for pb&j, I took tortillas and did "roll-ups." I used the small tortillas and could fit 4-5 in a sandwich bag.

Also, instead of bottled water I took an insulated water bottle and just filled it up by asking for a free cup of ice water at any of the counter service places.

I took canned chicken (costco... yum! or tuna would work also) and stopped by the grocery store deli (at home) and got some individual packets of mayo and mustard and then mixed up chicken salad at the hotel. Brought pitas for these and that was yummy and nice to get away from park food!

My family loves Mrs. Mays Trio Bars, which I order now from Amazon but previously could only get at Costco. They are all-natural nut bars. We went through a lot of them on our last trip!

Can I ask a question here... we will be flying into John Wayne Airport and will be shuttled to the hotel (GCH). Are there any options for me to find groceries nearby? Seems like snacks and water would be great but I can't pack and fly down a case of water. It seems that the White Water Snack area at the hotel might help us out but I have a feeling I would blow through my budget by doing this. Just wondering (actually hoping) I have a couple options in this area. Thanks so much.

There is a 7eleven at the corner of Katella and Harbor. Also East on Katella from the DLR is a Foo4Less, it would be long walk, but the cab to get there might offset the cost savings.

You might call whatever hotel you're planning to stay at and see if you can do this too. We shipped our souvenirs back to ourselves (from FL to CA) via USPS, and it was only about 20 bucks (and that box was not light! lol). If you went with a previous posters idea to bring an insulated cup and refill it at the park, it would probably be even cheaper to ship!!

Bubblegum for plane ride and ring pops too to try to help with 'un-popping' ears.

ear planes (helps for in-flight) prevents barotrauma
all medicines, such as advil, tylenol, gravol, peptobismal, eno, muscle relaxant, (if get a wrenched back), polysporin, etc.

Sudocreme - in case too much walking causes chafing anywhere on the body.

COOLING FOOT SPRAY OR CREME... a Godsend on the feet after a day in the parks. Also, antiblister balm in the hopes it prevents blisters. Bandaids.

Duct tape -I wrap it around a pen over and over so I have a small amount to use if need be.

Power bar - can help to charge all electronics at one station.

BOINGO - sign up for account if you want internet access at airport.McDonald's... I think BOINGO is free though.

MOUSEWAIT app... download and install on android phone or ipod phone to use in the parks.

spare eyeglasses - in case something happens to one!

headphones to hook to netbook to be able to use googlevoice to make phone calls.

Vicks' vaporub inhaler tube for on plane, as well as sudafed, etc.

rain ponchos from dollar store

couple of garbage bags and some spare ziploc bags

elastics or twist ties to tie up cords and cables of electronics so it is neater.

sanitizing wipes and sanitizer for in-park use.

Oh, and to the original poster, if you want to be a little greener, you could find some fun plastic bowls and plates that are just used for Disneyland trips, and store them when you get home! I've read a bunch of threads where people put together a box of all the things they use just for Disney trips (same can be said for cruises, etc), and put them away for next time! Saves on cost, and it's fun to add to! I think Target and Walmart (and maybe even Kmart) have plastic disney merchandise you can get.

You might call whatever hotel you're planning to stay at and see if you can do this too. I was pondering the same sort of thing for our upcoming August trip to DL. The last two summers at Disney World, I shipped a box of food and stuff that we ate while we were there, so I didn't have to ship anything home. Also, we bought cases of water from Costco and had them shipped to us at the hotel (included in the price on the Costco website). It was fairly cheap and easy and instead of paying $2.50 per bottle in the parks, it was $6.95 for 24 bottles (delivered)

You can also google Von's Safeway, and have them deliver groceries to your hotel. Still cheaper than eating out 3 times a day. There are several threads re: Von's, too.

what is the "rule" for disneyland?? i know the "hard rule" is no food, but can you bring bottles in as long as they are plastic?? i like the idea of insulated water bottles. also i realize that its ymmv as far as other snack foods being brought in park

The actual rule is no food but the only things I have ever heard of being confiscated were anything in a glass container and lunch stuff in un put together form... ie you can take in PB&J sandwiches in ziploc bags, but you cannot take in a loaf of bread, a plastic jar of peanut butter and plastic a jar of jelly.

We took in fresh fruit, water bottles, string cheese, granola bars & goldfish crackers as well as my DHs necessary Energy drinks. We kept a small soft sided ice chest in a locker for those things that had to remain cold

We have a picky eater in the family so lots of the food we are getting when we get there is catering to the fact that very likely he will refuse to eat anything in the park.

We are bringing bowls and utensils with us and will be bringing tupperware containers plus sandwich bags to cart things around with us.

We organised a Von's delivery to our hotel (GCH) and it worked out great. We ordered all the usual stuff: water, soda's, individual packs of cookies/chips/dried fruit, fresh fruit, carrot sticks etc plus cereal, milk and plastic ware for breakfast. We were able to take bottled water plus approx 6 snacks into the parks each day with no problems.

16 days till our trip!

We always stop at a store just before checking into our hotel.

Always on our list:
a gallon of water for the room (in addition to a case of water)
fruit -- we always eat fruit in the morning before leaving and get tired of the standard apples and bananas that are at most hotel buffets
milk
Antibacterial hand soap for the room
Antibacterial wipes for DLR
stamps
Baggies for dividing up one popcorn, or candy among 4 people
Our first night's dinner: rotisserie chicken, a bag of Redi Rice, a vegetable steamer bag, a bag of rolls. My kids are young and nobody wants to sit in a restaurant the first night after a 6 hour car ride. And leftover chicken on a roll is a great snack or breakfast for someone.

This is a great option as is the Vons option. We're staying at the GCH, anyone know if I can ship to them & have them hold it for me? Know how long they'll hold the package for? And the Vons is a good idea for the fresher type items. I'll need to make a note of these in my ever expanding Disneyland book of handy tips.
