Does anyone have any beauty secrets they would like to share?

I make my own facial scrubs. I mix sugar in with my facial cleanser, it really seems to help in the winter when your skin looks dull, it gives a nice glow. I also mix it with nutrogena body oil in the shower to get rid of dry skin, it saves money on those sugar scrubs. DD keeps asking me why I keep sugar in the bathroom :rotfl2: .

I also use vinegar as a rinse for my hair, we have very hard water here, and it gets the build up out. No it doesn't leave a vinegar smell.:crazy2:

luzdzne,

Try doing a "search", I seemed to remember a good thread about this one sometime ago.

Sorry to repost something. I did a search and didn't find anything :confused3

I really don't have any beauty secrets of my own, though I will have to try your sugar scrub now. I'll do anything to get a healthy glow. :teeth:

I have heard that olive oil is a good hot oil treatment for very dry hair. I haven't tried it myself, but might be worth a shot for some.

Been using sugar with my favorite soap for years. Skin feels soooo smooth afterwards and does have a nice glow.

Olive oil in the hair. Oh yes, I was soooo excited about trying this tip. Had read in a magazine years ago that Cher did this to give her hair great shine. Well, at the time I had waist length hair (like Cher) and could hardly wait to try this. After a dozen or so shampoos, I finally got the "grease" out where my hair didn't hang in oily strings. Hands were nearly raw and the "promised shine" all scrubbed away. Don't know how Cher was able to get by doing this or anyone for that matter. :confused3 I never give up though. Next it was with mayonnaise and I had pretty much the same problem but not nearly so many shampoos were needed afterward. :teeth:

Almost forgot....eggs slopped on the head are supposed to be good, too. What a mess and I couldn't tell a difference afterward. One thing that DID do something positive for my hair was beer. Yep...rinsed in beer gave it great shine and *fabulous body*! (You can't smell the beer after it dries.)

If you run out of hairspray, you can make up a solution of sugar mixed with water. Put in in an old spray bottle and you're set! ;)

I rub an ice cube over my lipstick (already applied to my lips). It lasts ALOT longer and stays put (doesn't feather or bleed!)

I also, during the summer, stick my head in our freezer for 20 seconds after putting makeup on. Sounds crazy, and I look funny, but it all stays on.

I get really bad dandruff during the winter. I scrub my head w/ salt in the shower (before wetting) about once every one to two weeks. It doesn't make it all go away, but really helps!!!!!

Great thread! :thumbsup2 Hope more people post!!!

My girlfriend who has really oily hair sometimes used o put a little baby powder on the roots and it really worked. Just becareful not to use to much otherwise your hair will look white.

Yeah, love the baby powder trick. Gives a bit of body as well as removing oil from the hair. ;)

If you have oily skin and trouble with large pores, keep a bottle of witch hazel in the fridge. Saturate a cotton ball with it and wipe over face. Tends to make pores less noticible and helps control oil....in other words, it's an astringent. Just plain feels good if you don't have these problems. :teeth:

ive also heard of the beer trick- supposed to work fabulously. i wanted to do it but being the person i am, my mom wouldnt let me. beer hair. pshaa

I use Monoi Oil in my hair as a conditioner. My hair is very long, so I wash it first and towel dry. Then put a few drops of Monoi Oil in my hands and work it into my hair, adding extra as needed. It doesn't take much to do the job.

For facial care I always have Jojoba oil. aloe gel and tea tree oil on hand. Jojoba is good as a moisturizer, MU remover and more. Aloe gel can be used as a gentle moisturizer and soother. Tea tree oil works wonders on blemishes.

If you do have blemishes and clogged pores, try an aspirin toner or mask. You make both at home with plain aspirin. For a toner I mix one aspirin with about 1 oz warm water and 1 oz rosewater, shake to dissolve the aspirin (there will be some settling) and then use after cleansing. Aspirin mask is made by crushing some aspirin tablets and making a paste with water or water plus aloe, yogurt, etc. Apply this paste to your face and let sit about 10-15 minutes. Rinse well and pat dry.

I make my own body scrubs sometimes. Here's one of my recipes:

Coffee Body Scrub

1/2 C. brown sugar
2 T. finely ground coffee, fresh
2-4 T. finely ground quick oats
2 T. sweet almond oil
2 T. cream (or dry milk powder)
1 T. cocoa powder, optional
1 t. vanilla (or other extracts, as desired)
2 T. vanilla body wash (ex. St. Ives)
1-2 T. freeze dried coffee, optional

I'll have to try this :) Where do I buy witch hazel from? :confused3

Definatly trying this one! It sounds like it smells yummy! I have never heard of using coffee before, I'm up for anything to give me an extra dose of java in the morning. :teeth: Does the coffee do anything or is it more for smell?

what is monoi oil, and where do you buy it?

I also thought of somethine else, if you wake up with a blemish that is really red, put some visine on a q-tip and hold it on the spot for a few seconds, it will take some of the red out.

I will definatly try the baby powder trick on dd, her hair gets very oily even after just washing it.

I think I saw witch hazel at Target next to the rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide.

Thanks Beth76! I'll check it out next time I'm at the drug store. We don't have Targets in Canada. Someday maybe ... :goodvibes

Not really a secret, but I swear by Crest Whitestrips!!

Baking soda is also wonderful to mix in with your cleanser as a scrub. Unbelievable how soft your skin will be!

I always put Vaseline (or any lip balm) on my lips before going to sleep to stop them getting chapped.

Oh, and Lush products, of course :teeth:

A paperbag over my head disguises a mulitude of sins

Use sunscreen and stay out of those nasty tanning beds!!

I know someone who'll rub the contents of a vitamin E capsule on her wrinkles to make them less noticeable. I want to try it but I keep forgetting to get the vitamins.

When my hands get really dry I'll rub olive oil on them.
