I booked 2 rooms with hotels.com at Universal Pacific Resort. Originally the reservation said I wouuld be charged at checkout which was good as I hoped to find a better rate. Anyway not only did they charge my card straight away but charged me double. Got that sorted out but I have paid in full. My reservation says I can cancel until 5 days before and we are staying there 25/7. So I have seen a better rate on Thomas Cook and we would save £50 total for both rooms. You have to pay straight away for Thomas Cook and with all the problems with hotels.com I am worried about cancelling reservation and there being problems getting the money back given that my actual reservation still says I will be charged at check in. I of course would want to book the other room before cancelling incase the deal disappeared. Just thinking if its worth taking a chance for £50. Also 11% cashback which is better than the cashback I already got.

I've had a few dealings with Hotels.com and have to say they have always been pretty quick at refunding money.

For our upcoming visit to New York, I booked a hotel but after reading a few negative reports about the general area, decided to cancel. Did this on-line and the money was back on my credit card within the day. I have also made several price-match claims, and again, the difference has been refunded promptly.

Just out of interest, do you have a price match guarantee on your hotel? If so, take a screenshot of the Thomas Cook Price then put in a price match claim (or call them to verify it will be accepted) - may be better than worrying about not having the money refunded for some time.

I also booked a room (it was a one night at AoA) through Hotels.com last year
had to cancel as I went to CBR instead

I just cancelled online, and was refunded in the next 72 hours on the credit card used for the booking

hassle free in my case.

Check into the price match as I think it's Hotels.com who will price match until just before you go unlike some who only do for 24/48 hours.

It is Hotels.com who pricematch - I have had a few occasions where I have found the hotel cheaper. In 2011, I found our NY hotel for around £100 cheaper - ironically with Hotels.com!! Just called them and they rebooked me at the new rate and refunded my original payment.
