Anyone cancel 2/14-2/19 due to weather?

Has anyone had to cancel or change their DVC vacation because of the weather in the South?

We have been eagerly awaiting our first trip home to AKV Kidani for a year now. We are so excited and planned a Grand Gathering with our family and both sets of our parents.

First Mom & Dad's flight down got cancelled because of the snow down south - honestly they have more snow then we do in Maine. Anyway, the person that called said to book another flight right then with him to hold their spot. They are getting older and don't always think ahead and when upset it's even worse. Anyhow, they booked that flight. It was into Tampa (which was their original destination) but it was for after our vacation started and they'd have to get to Orlando. When they called back to see about Orlando they were told it would be an additional $300. They decided to extend their stay and fly back from Tampa ("only" an additional $180, because they were changing their flight (I say not their fault because SWA changed it first to a time that wouldn't work but SWA says because they already "rebooked" they had to charge the fee?)) They are now driving down with us.

Today, we are now stuck in North Carolina. It is snowing down here and they are talking about closing the highway. AUGH!!!! We can't win! It was warmer today back home and we have less snow there.

Hoping for some Disney magic to get us to our Home away from Home!

Best of luck to you for your vacation! I really feel for those who have been trying to get to their destinations. We put so much planning into it, and the weather is just beyond our control. I stressed so much about possible storms for our vacation the last week of January, but we were lucky. It's so strange that we haven't had any snow for weeks and it's the mid-Atlantic that's causing all the travel headaches! When I checked the temps yesterday afternoon it was only 6 degrees warmer in Orlando than here in Portland!!

Just wanted to update. We made it Home to Kidani!!!! It is chilly but we have had a magical start to our stay at WDW.

We have 3 rooms: a 1BR lock-off and a studio. The rooms were going to be on opposite sides of the building but thanks to our great Front Desk Cast Member we got rooms beside each other!

We decided to head to Animal Kingdom while waiting for our rooms, just down the road AND my favorite park. We turned in a Give A Day voucher for the fast pass cards. Usually they only give the cards to you and 5 of your guests but the CM asked how many in our party and gave all 8 of us one! Gotta love that.

We had heard about the wonderful allergy accomodations at FlameTreeBBQ so we decided to give it a try. They made a beautiful lunch for my DMIL who has celiac disease. She insisted she didn't eat much and wasn't sure she could eat the large sandwich they made for her but she ate every last bit! It was so nice seeing her enjoy her lunch with no worries about how she would feel later. The nice CM even found us at our table to check on her.

While waiting for our meal my Mom & I were holding tables and a nice family sitting next to us struck up a conversation with us. They were here for the National Cheering competition. They were very sweet and when they left they gave us some valentine's treats. It was a perfect snack for later in the day.

When our rooms were ready and it was time to leave, we still had about 12 fastpasses on our cards. They could only be used for It's A Bug's Life (not accepting passes today), Kali River Rapids (Brrr) or Dinosaur. We got all Dinosaur fastpasses and decided to share the magic! We found 2 families and gave them our Dinosaur fastpasses.

It's time now for bed. We are looking forward to another "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" and "Tomorrow is Just A Dream Away"! I hope everyone that was coming this week got to come or has been able to tweak their dates a little so they can get here soon.

The crowds at AK weren't too bad today. About 70-90 min avg stand-by wait. The fastpass lines moved very quickly though. The Cheering Competition is over and most of those groups are leaving tomorrow so we'll see. We're headed to MK tomorrow AM. I'll let you know how it was tomorrow night.

We were supposed to head home to AKL on 2/11-2/17. Flight was canceled and we couldn't get a new flight until 2/16. We were forced to cancel. My oldest dd (13) was crushed. On a happy note I was able to rebook on 2/25-3/2. Hopefully, we may end up with some warmer weather. Funny thing was we only had a dusting of snow in MA however, no flights could make it to Hartford.

Glad you were able to reschedule. You will hopefully get better weather. Today was nice, around 70. It's supposed to be our nicest day all week, so we enjoyed it! The lines were long today. 90-120 minute stand-by lines. Gotta love fastpass! Those lines were moving quickly.
