Anyone buy an Iphone from eBay

I'm wanting to eventually upgrade my Iphone 4. I use Straight Talk but may switch over to Cricket next year so I'm paying out of pocket. eBay has a 64 gb Iphone 6 (AT&T) for $449. My net cost is about $350 (gift cards, ebates, eBay bucks). Similar phones on Swappa are about the same price, but it's $450 out of pocket because I can't use gift cards or get ebates or eBay bucks. Anything I should be aware of? Or should I hold off another few months and let prices fall further as the 6s is available? I'm not really in a hurry, but my Iphone 4 is "laggy" as my dd says:)

Just make sure the phone is compatible with whoever your carrier is. If it's a phone for Verizon, it will only work with Verizon. If it's unlocked, it will work with any carrier but you generally will pay more for that.

Thanks. Since I'm using Straight Talk and may switch to Cricket either AT&T or unlocked phones will work.

Thats not true.

With the Iphone 6 it comes unlocked from Verizon.

I was just using Verizon as an example. I don't believe other carriers come unlocked. If OP were to buy a Sprint or T-Mobile, then I believe it wouldn't work on other carriers.

I'm not sure a Verizon Iphone 6 is compatible with Cricket--I need to check that out. But thanks for the information. It can be hard to get a straight answer on this stuff.

But by using Verizon as an example you gave wrong information.

The Verizon Iphone 6 is factory unlocked it is compatible with any carrier.

Whatever phone you buy on EBay, the day that you get it, check it over very carefully and it would be a good idea to have a professional check it over, as well. I bought an IPhone 6, listed as in pristine shape, for a friend living in Thailand (I was going over there in June). I saw nothing wrong with it and basically kept it in my dresser drawer and in my pocket for the trip (it was never dropped). There is a shopping mall in Bangkok that has many stores that work on Apple products. They changed the battery in my IPhone 4s. I showed them the phone and they shook it and noticed that the battery was loose. They then showed me a barely visible crack in the top right corner. It had been 6 weeks since I purchased the phone and the seller refused to do anything. At least in Thailand, I could get it fixed for considerably less than in the U.S. So, check the phone and keep in mind the deadline for returns on EBay.

Thanks. That's helpful. It does make me a little nervous, but it's also so much cheaper than buying new so I think it's worth taking a chance. Also, the seller reviews make me a little more comfortable.

With the iPhone 6s coming out, I'd ask around if any family or friends would be willing to sell you their phone for the trade in value they'd get from their carrier. At least you'd get to inspect the phone before buying it.

Unless something has recently changed, AT&T uses a different platform than Verizon and Sprint. Not 100% sure an unlocked iPhone from Verizon would work on Cricket if it is using AT&T technology.

The iPhone 6 is both a gsm and cmda phone. As long as it's unlocked it will work on any US carrier.

Rule of thumb, dont buy T-Mobile iPhone. Stick with ATT/Verizon phones...
