Anyone buy a crossover vehicle lately?

My car was hit yesterday morning on the way to work. Back right side and the wheel is pretty bad. I have to wait for tomorrow to see if it is worth being repaired or if it will be totaled. It's a 2003 Pontiac so it might not be worth the repairs.

I'll need a car soon since my lovely Erie Insurance is only giving me three days on my rental car after the decision is made. If it gets repaired I'm fine to keep the rental.

I've been looking at the Kia's.

Anyone recently purchase?

I got a GMC Acadia. It's a crossover suv. I like it. It's not huge, and have enough space for us with the three rows.

I have the GM Equinox, got it in Feb, I LOVE IT!

Honda CR-V or Toyota Rav4, the only 2 I would even consider. I made the mistake of buying a Ford because the payments would be the same for brand new over used of Toyota or Honda. Now I'm suffering with sitting out in the driveway working on it and fixing things when I shouldn't have to be with just a mere 60,000 miles on it.

We bought an Equinox in July and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!

We had Erie Insurance and they dropped DD (23) when it was time for renewal (not DH & I)! She had 1 not at fault accident and one that was her fault that cost Erie $600 over a period of 2 years!! DH and I were with Erie over 32 years with our Auto's and Homeowner's. We have 1 speeding ticket each and 2-3 small claims on our auto and 1 homeowner's. A deer jumped in front of me once and once I backed into another car. (my DS's!) :guilty: We had to shop for new insurance!

Run, run, run away from Kia. :headache:

I am currently researching new cars because my Kia Sedona minivan needs to go. I have ranted and raved about how much I hate it many times on the Dis. I've had tons of stupid things go wrong with it. Now the current batch of problems includes a bad catalytic converter ($$$$). Now at around 97K miles the mechanic recommends that I trade it in and get rid of it. The car is not even 5 years old and has been well maintained (even though it didn't do me any good).

Anyway, I too am looking at small SUVs or crossovers. I am only considering things that pretty much have Excellent reviews across the board on Consumer Reports and that I can get in for under $25K. I narrowed it down to 3 choices. Subaru Forrester, Nissan Rogue (crossover) and Honda CRV. After driving the Forrester and Rogue, I much preferred the Rogue. The Forrester felt cheaper in the interior, had more road noise, had awful audio system and we just preferred comfort and ride of the Rogue. We were able to test drive both at the same dealership. I have looked at the CRVs but not driven them yet. So far, I like what I see, if they test drive well, this might be the direction I go.

I didn't like the Subaru Outback because the front end was sooo long.

Hope this helps a bit.

I also have been surprised that several vehicles that I thought were more expensive I can get them in the low $20s. Don't settle for Kia. Shop around if you can.

ETA: One more thing my full coverage insurance on the new Rogue is about $50 less per year than the comparable insurance on my 5 year old Kia. The new CRV about $50 more. Sad that a 5 year old car is as much to insure as new vehicles.

I have a CRV and love it. It's a wonderful car (ours is a 2005) and we've never had a problem. We also have a 1998 Honda Civic, and that's still going strong 12 years later. I can't say enough good things about Hondas!

I've heard good things about the Rogue, as the poster upthread mentioned. And they have some really good lease deals with Nissan if that'd be something you'd be interested in doing.

I second the run far far away from Kia sentiment. My mother was driving my car, a Pontiac Grand Am(love that little thing), through the mall parking lot a few months ago and a car started backing out of their space as she was passing by. Long obnoxious story short, at less than five miles a hour, the entire bumper was hanging off the car that backed into mine. A late model Kia sedan. My car? Had a teeny tiny little scratch right below the tail light.

I have a Nissan Murano. I really love it! And I leased it for 3 yrs. I didnt care for the rogue.

We currently have a 2000 CR-V that has had only 1 issue in all its years (differential fluid and my husband did the repair himself). We are looking at new cars now and are considering the Subaru Forester, Subaru Outback or Honda CR-V again. Those are the only ones I will consider for reliability, maintenance, safety and overall looks and quality.

Subaru's are VERY expensive to fix if they do have issues-and it can sometimes take ages to get parts-i was soooooooo glad to see mine go. I loved driving it-and it had great safety ratings-but an ongoing electrical issue meant it spent more time in the shop than in my driveway the last year i had it-and cost$$$$$ i did not recoup selling it-i just wanted rid of it.

We have a Nissan Murano. We test drove the Rogue, but decided to pay the extra and get the bigger Murano.

I'm the poster who is looking at the Rogues and CR-Vs.

I too love the Murano's, however, my understanding is that they need Premium gas. Something to keep in mind if you look at them.

For CR-V owners, I am struggling on whether the backseat has enough room. There are some used Pilots that are in my price range, but the gas mileage is not as good.

I have 2 kids that should get tall during the life of my next car. I am tall and am comfortable in the backseat during the short time I checked it out.

What are your thoughts? Can the CR-V backseat comfortably fit 3 kids if one has a friend along? Is it still comfortable especially for long rides for people 5'10" ish?

Do any of these crossover vehicles mentioned seat 6 people or more?

We probably will have to buy a new vehicle within the next year or so but there are six of us in my immediate family and often we are carting around friends as well. I currently have a mini-van but would prefer to NOT get another mini-van.

Hyundais are much better than KIAs (same parent company but one is the budge version - think Buick/Chevy)

I have a Tuscon (crossover SUV using the Elantra chassis) and I've been very happy with it from reliability and gas usage. They changed the model style this year so I don't know if it would fit you or not. Next step up is the Santa Fe which is also a crossover. Hyundai gives you the 10 year/100,000 power train warranty. Also, many safety features that are options on many vehicles are standard on all Hyundais. Might be worth a look for you.

WOW! Sorry to hear about your Kia. Thank you for the advice! I'm still waiting for the appraiser to call me today with his decision. The tow driver said it looked totaled based on the year of the car. I like the CRV's as well.

Thank you to everyone for your advice on the crossovers! I've got lots of work to do if they decide to total the car. I wasn't ready to purchase a new one just yet. I was hoping for a few more years but things happen.

We have a Ford Edge and we REALLY love it!

Same here :thumbsup2

The safety ratings are what made the decision for us...of course, I haven't looked at the safety ratings since it was on the news that safety ratings have been altered with the new "woman test crash dummy".
