What did it feel like?

Around 11pm I dropped my laptop smack dab on my right big toe. IT HURTS SO BAD! I can't walk, I can't bend my toe at all, and when I use my finger to bend my toe it stings deep like no tomorrow. It's starting to get a little tingly. I can't even put ice on it because it hurts too much, nor can I put it on the ground. It doesn't look too swollen, but it hurts just to even touch it.

Does any of that describe what a broken toe feels like?

Yes! My family was getting ready to go to Cedar Point for the weekend. We had all of our suitcases ready to go downstairs.. and I have no idea what I was doing but I was walking and kicking my legs up.. and before I went to kick my left leg up, the suitcase smacked PERFECTLY on my pinky toe!

I didn't realize how important it was to have it, but I couldn't walk without it! So It might sound like you broke yours too. I'm sorry  breaking bones is never fun. especially if you can't walk. I hope it heals

It does to me.

I went to the doctor and they x-rayed it and told me to stay off of it as much as I could for the next 1 or 2 day, but that was all the said they could do.

hurt really bad, and my toes turned black, and i had to walk with my toes off the ground.

it takes several weeks to heal. don't go to the hospital, they can't do anything for it. just tape it to the next closest toe and hope no one steps on your feet.

Yeah I broke my big toe before. It sounds like you broke yours too. =[
My toe was black and blue for weeks.

Did you hit the toe nail part too?

Well crap on a cracker. This is the worst possible time.

My mom says we're not allowed to go to the ER now because it's "too late". All I know is that I can't even lightly touch my toe without being in significant pain, and trust me I'm not one to whine about pain.

Splint it to your next toe for the time being. (It's gonna hurt, but should help.) They did that when my mom broke her pinky toe.

Is it possible that you broke a bone that went up into your foot too?

Possibly. The area I can't touch is from the "knuckle" down to the base of my toe, where my foot starts. And, we have no medical tape - no splinting for me.

If you don't have tape then make sure that you put on a tight-fitting sock. It kinds of holds the toes together. I broke the same toe twice and this was recommended to me by a doctor. It also helps to stop your toe from getting caught up in your sheets while sleeping.

I broke both of my pinky toes before. And I've seen dozens of them from working in athletic training. It does sound like you broke it. With a big toe, you do want to go to the ER because it controls balance. You really should go in the morning. They may send you to an orthopedic doctor who will xray and possibly put a pin in it.

I hope you start feeling better! PM me if you have any other questions.

I keep begging my mom to take me to the ER, but apparently sleep is more important. Did I mention I was just diagnosed with osteoporosis, which makes this situation all the more dangerous. I am not happy right now.

I have a sock on and it hurts more than you know. I popped a 2 mg Dilaudid and it's barely touching the pain. It's been 1 hour and 45 minutes and it still hurts as bad, if not worse.

Well make her take you tomorrow. If you go to church then good luck walking around. If you can, touch your toe and apply a light bit of pressure. If it remains white for more than 5 seconds, that make it all the more likely that you broke it. And i know you said that it hurts to ice, but really really really try to ice it. It REALLY needs ice; otherwise it will be extremely swollen and painful tomorrow. And maybe take some Ibuprofen or another NSAID pain reliever to reduce swelling.

Oh trust me I will be in that ER at 6 am tomorrow. If I make it thru the night my mom better be saying a prayer. The second this PK wears off I'm going to be screaming.

there is no way to join it to the closest toe? this is very very important, you have to set the bones very quickly to avoid them setting themselves incorrectly. if they are set incorrectly, the doctor will have to REbreak your toe, and reset it.

i've broken my pinky toe a total of 4 times. its deformed now. whoo. not that you care but just sayin. Everytime it broke it was someone stepping on it. I'm only 4'11 and size five feet so at Prom and Homecoming i'm always getting pushed around. never dance with a 6'7 football player, they like to break toes.

Not really. I have a tight, but not too tight, sock on to kind of hold it with the other toes.

leave the sock on, and put an ice pack UNDER your foot, and set your foot down on top of it. you don't want pressure on top of your toes, and by putting your foot on top of the ice you can control the pressure.

thanks! that seems to help.
