I absolutely still cannot decide where to stay next Dec. even after getting great advice here on the Dis! Should I just go ahead and book WL room only (AAA) and book a room at Swan, too, at the same time and just decide later? We still can't decide if DDP will be worth it for us next year, for one thing, and don't know which resort will have the best rate for a looonnngg time (Disney visa codes came out in Aug. this year, and Swan specials for Dec.-$179- just came out in the last few weeks). Right now, both resorts with AAA standard room are very close in price.

Should I just book both, and decide later, or pull a name out of a hat?

I use to do this - not a problem.

since they are located in very different places - how about both?

do Swan first, then WL. or what ever you want to do it.

both will give you fast access to both MK (WL), Epcot (Sn) and Studios (SN)

I did the same thing this year and just made a decision an cancelled one last week. We were holding a reservation at SOG and then a 1 bedroom at OKW (in case DD18 brought a friend on our trip). We cancelled SOG and changed to a studio at OKW (AP rates) now that we know that it will just be the two of us.

I don't see a problem with holding two as long as you don't have a problem with paying a deposit for both and don't forget to cancel one before the refund period is over.

We stayed at the Swan this past March and loved it!

I did this for our trip in June. In fact, for a week or 2 I even had 3 resorts booked, YC, Swan and Hilton in DTD.:rolleyes1 We did end up at the YC which was my original booking. :flower3:

I currently have 2 different resorts booked with a AAA discount. I did pay a deposit on both, but since they're room-only, I have up to 5 days before the trip to decide and cancel one of them. Those AAA rates go fast, so I wanted to reserve it now and think about it a while.

I just did the same thing with our AAA discount. We are torn between ASMovies and WL- can you beleive that!? So I booked both and will cancel one closer to our date.

You're holding two rooms so no one else can get them. I think it's inconsiderate, to put it *very* mildly.

Since they are on two different systems (i.e. Swan is not a Disney run hotel), then you can do this no problem. If they were both Disney resorts, Disney might notice this and cancel one of them. As for the ethical nature of your question, the same applies for ADRs, and it seems to be getting more and more difficult to book either. So if you start feeling guilty, drop the Swan reservation and stay at the WL!

Why is that? She thought ahead and booked 2 rooms because she couldn't decide. She will be releasing one of the rooms at one point, so it's not like it will go unoccupied.

The other day I had a function so I went to the mall. I bought 2 dresses because I couldn't decide. I will be returning the one I didn't wear. Was that inconsiderate? I am holding a dress that right now someone else can't get.

I agree, it's hard enough to get rooms these days, holding two is just selfish.

It's just another case of someone wanting support and/or validation for doing something they know is wrong. In fact, this post should not even be allowed on the board. It's a discussion of ways to cheat Disney. If you call Disney and ask them to book two resorts for the same dates and same people, they will tell you No, you can't do that.

Not flamming...just speaking from experience and knowledge...

It does not matter if the guest is booked at Swan and Disney, it is all booked through the same system at the Reservation Center. Yes, Swan is not owned by Disney, but when booking, reservations for all locations booked is all stored. So agents can see this.

Agents are trained to assit the guest in making a decision to free up the rooms for someone else.

With Disney being so popular (especially around the holidays) holding multiple rooms or ADRs is just being inconsiderate to everyone else who would like to visit.

Disney frowns on guests holding 2 different resort reservations at the same time. And if they notice, they will cancel one of them.

There are 2 main reasons for this. First, Disney wants people in their rooms. They do not want last minute cancellations that result in a room being unoccupied. Second, many people were booking 2 resorts and then waiting to see if a code was released for either room, and then deciding which room they wanted. Disney usually releases codes for resorts that have a great number of rooms not booked, so people booking and then canceling rooms messes up their system.

And the dress comparison doesn't work. A store is not loosing money because you returned a dress. They can sell that dress at any time. Disney has a set time that they can rent that room. And they will loose money if a room goes unoccupied.

And I agree, it is rude. Pick a resort, and then if you change your mind, change your ressie.

Wow, who's got their knickers in a twist today? I just wanted some advice on how people decide between two hotels! Have YOU ever had that dilemma? If so, then share how you decided, otherwise, :rolleyes1 .

Thanks to everyone else's input and the lively discussion!

And, by the way, the Swan is a Westin hotel, not a Disney hotel. Now, pass the popcorn please...:goodvibes

In no way does this cheat disney since the Swan is NOT a disney hotel.

A couple weeks ago I posted that I had a paid package at POR and booked two of the same nights at the Swan for medical reasons I plan to stay at the Swan some nights, but still pay for my POR package for the duration. I was blasted for that, even though I have paid totally for both, you cannot say I am cheating Disney in any way. But I still got roasted by the Hollier than thou on here.

As for the all reservations go through the same system, Balderdash! if you book through the Swan directly you are on their system only not on Disneys reservation center.

I had POR booked for 1/6-1/13 and then booked AKL for the same dates (when the discount code came out). I cancelled POR within 3 days, but still had both booked during that time. I just had a hard time deciding between the two because if we did AKL we had to take a standard view room. Also had Travel agent issues which delayed the process. Finally what made me decide was that I would actually save $$$ by going with the upgraded ressie for AKL.

I think people need to calm down and not judge others. This post quickly turned harsh and rude. That is uncalled for.

As is the way with most things......the early bird gets the worm! The OP is thinking/planning ahead and has spent MONEY and placed a deposit on both rooms. There is nothing illegal nor dishonest about this.

I think people should treat others the way they would like to be treated:thumbsup2

wow! the OP did NOT "know" it was wrong. she ws only asking for advice.

, Disney wants people in their rooms. They do not want last minute cancellations that result in a room being unoccupied.

the OP is looking for NEXT dec. (not exactly "last minute cancellation) and cancellations are ALWAYS good for those many people who are not "knowledgable in the ways of the mouse" as we dissers are; and there are MANY of them, believe me.
we dissers love to plan ahead. however, many codes come out AFTER we've made our ressies. case in point: how many of us made ressies in sept.; HOPING for the free dining, but planning to cancel if it wasn't offered? knowledge is a powerful thing. kudos to us who know how to use it!!!
and you know what? Disney knows this, they plan on it and hope for it. hubby nebo and I have OFTEN made ressies we thought we probably wouldn't use but, hey, at that price... book it... just in case. that's why Disney loves us so much!!!! MANY times we go anyways.. just cause it's easier to NOT go to Disney if there's no ressies, but SO HARD to cancel... gee you already have your heart set on it!!!!:rotfl: law of supply and demand.
if the resort you want is booked... call next week, or the next week. Disney loves it! and always try for the best deal you can get

oh yeah! almost forgot. they ARE 2 dif. systems. we originally had ressies for free dining at 2 dif. disney resorts, sandwiched around a 3 night dolphin at an amazing $125 per night!!!! had to change to 2 weeks later, due to a work conflict. BUT>>> NEBO said.. "just don't cancel that Dolphin ressie yet" me.. "but we can't go.. work" nebo"you never know, the price is too good, never get that again, just don't cancel it. "ok"
so we made ressies for POR 2 weeks later, free dining, but held on to that 3 night Dolphin, even though we probably wouldn't use it. guess what?????

circumstances blew up in our faces. hubby's company went under. decided to go to florida to check out jobs, living, etc (since he was out of work anyway) and GUESS which ressies we ended up using that we were so glad we didn't cancel? AND stayed an extra couple nights at a value (thereby giving Disney our money)

yup, don't listen to the "holier than thou" people. do what fits your budget and work the system. disney makes out in the long run. that is the reason they have cancellation fees.

answer to your original query: do you prefer MK or EPCOT? WL is beautiful!!! and a nice boat ride form MK. the swan(although we prefer the dolphin) is walking distance from epcot (and a long walk for MGM, but a short boat ride). It's really nice to watch illuminations from the international gateway, then stroll back to your resort after (and maybe stop in at Kimonos for Karaokee!)
how about a split stay? do WL the days you do MK and AK, then the swan the days you do epcot and MGM? even though the swan is a Westin hotel, disney does transfer your luggage for you. (however, swan and dolphin do not participate in Magical Express, if you are flying). good luck, hapy planning!:grouphug:
