Anyone been towed from Resort Parking

I just responded to someone on the Ft. Wilderness Camping board that thinks its okay to Pool hop as long as you don't get caught!!!

It's a no brainer ... if you're staying at a WDW resort and don't want to worry about your car, ride Disney transportation! Why do people want to make life more complicated than it already is.

If you are going during a peak season, the risk is greater to be towed/booted. However I will agree with another poster in this thread that I also have a few friends that work in Disney and I used to be a CM. Disney only tows cars if it absolutely has to. I've never seen a car towed off of Disney property that hasn't been in an accident or died in the parking lot of MK after the park closes. And they would never tow someone staying on Disney Property. Just put your property pass on the dashboard. Don't pay attention to the people who freak out over every small detail, you are, after all, going to this resort to partake in what it has to offer. Let them scratch their mad spots and get over it. Or really piss them off and take a dip in the POLY pool while you're there. FOR SHAME!! Good luck!

Just read this again. That's not to say that Disney doesn't tow cars at all. If you are staying off property I would not risk going over the 3 hour limit. But if you are staying at another resort, they won't tow with the resort id in the window. Hope that clears things up!

I completely agree. The point isn't whether you get caught or whether your car will be damaged if it's moved. Why should that particular resort's guests have to search for parking, or as someone else posted, use the valet because the non valet spots are being occupied by non resort guests? It's a question of courtesy and doing the right thing. I believe that most rules are in place for a good reason, to keep order, and should be followed. If you couldn't find a spot at your resort, wouldn't you be frustrated? It goes back to the that golden rule, ' do unto others.'

On a side note, I'm amazed at how some get on the offensive when it's brought to their attention that what they're doing is not morally correct. They might find what was pointed out to be rude, but it's even ruder to not show common courtesy. I don't think Carol A was trying to chastise anyone and neither am I, she was just stating fact.

I hope the OP finds a solution to her dilemma.

I came back to see what happened here.

On another board (RAPD) I read a letter that someone posted. The letter was to the management at the Poly. And why did they write this letter and complain at the desk. They stayed at the Poly during one of the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parties. When they returned to their expensive hotel there were practically NO empty spaces so they surveyed the cars. They noticed LOTS of cars with the three hour permit (expired) and lots of cars with permits for other resorts. I can't blame them for complaining.

As to me chastizing anyone. My theory on reactions to message boards is..... My reaction to anything anyone posts is entirely in my hands and is 99.9% a result of my attitude at the time. Since I figure everyone works the same way and I lack the ablity to read your mind and figure out what you really meant I just don't worry too much.

And I still believe they can two your car without damaging it. They towed my boss's BMW recently. The only damage was to his ego.

Me either.

My car might have been in one of those spaces . On the other hand, I might have been one of those Poly guests without a parking space . Doubt it though, during the busy seasons I usually valet park .

I fully agree with the sentiment that the parking issue is a moral one in many ways. I abide by the 3 hr limit when there in all but one instance. My last visit was during a very slow time and as I left our breakfast at poly, as an afterthought asked at the counter about the parking policy. I was told they would be towing no-one and as a breakfast guest I was welcome to leave my car there for the day. I was surprised by the response and assume it was due to low traffic. I must also point out that someone mentioned earlier that you would be violating your rental car agreement if you were towed and damage occured by overstaying the time limit. This is not a legal violation of any sort, merely a disney resort parking issue, so you are not breaking any laws. Still not a good idea of course though.

Since it is Easter (a very busy time), there may be more restrictions on parking. You could do the valet parking or another option would be to park at MGM and ride the boat to Y&BC for breakfast. You could then go through the International Gateway to/from EPCOT. At the end of your Illuminations Cruise, ask if they will drop you off at MGM so you can pick up your car. (They have offered to do this for us in the past...although things do change, maybe you could call and ask about it?)

I agree that it totally depends on what time of year you are visitng. When we were last there, we asked the guard at the Y&BC gate, and he said that since it was a slow time of year, that it was okay to stay for the day.

The above statements don't make a whole lot of sense. If you are illegally parked (and have been given a slip of paper saying you can only park for three hours) then they are within thier rights to tow you and you would be liable not Disney. A good tow truck driver can extract your car from a space MUCH smaller then the average Disney space without damaging anything. (I see them do it out my office window all the time!)

When I am one of the guests at those Deluxe resorts, I had better be able to find a space or I will be at the front desk pointing out the "pink slips" and other resort slips. I don't think I should be forced into paying for Valet simply because all the "free spots" were taken up by others.

I must say that I agree with you completely. We always stay at The Yacht and Beach Club and there is a sign there for a reason about not being able to park there for Epcot. I choose this resort carefully because of it's closeness to Epcot. There is nothing worse than not being to find a parking space when I return from some place else because others have parked here for the day and aren't staying here. When I drive my car to MK, I don't say screw it and park in the Contemporary parking lot for the day and take the monorail because I'm not supposed to.
While I understand the OP's situation and the frustration, maybe they will change the rules this one time. But then again, what about those who are going to try and get around this because they're spending the day at Epcot, but having lunch at the Beach Club and dinner at the Yachtsman, do they get to park at the Y&B for the day? You'll find people grabbing a cup of coffee then, walking over to Epcot for the day and coming back for dinner. Or better yet, simply making PS for the restaurants just so they can park here and not coming back. It really does open up a big can of worms for those resorts that are close to the parks.

As far as I know, if the regular lot is full, guests of that resort are given valet parking free.

The resort cannot easily enforce against cars with nothing in the windsheield and far from the entrance, since someone unable to find a space near the check n dsek may not want to walk all the way back to the car to insert the parkint perfmit. Unless they want you to park in the circle under the awning while checkingin.
