My mother (64) went w/ us last year to WDW she has diabetes which makes her nap at the drop of a hat...Nemo musical, Spaceship Earth etc. she napped! Which I didn't mind and neither did she. It gave her a boost of energy to keep going. This year we are taking her again in (April) She had a mini stroke in October and I'm wondering if she will be ok to due the walking etc. Her stoke left her with alittle bit of a speech slur but getting better everyday! She does not go to therapy anymore (graduated from it) and has just returned to driving in the last month. I wasn't going to ask her but hated to go without her. She says she wants to go but I'm not sure how she will do or if she even realizes it might be difficult. Should we get a whhel chair to help w/ the walking and standing. Or let her walk the entire time to build up her strength. Or should I start now walking with her a couple days a week to build up her enery level. Any thoughts!

My dad has gone after a stroke. I think it is wonderful that you want to take her again. I would suggest considering renting a wheelchair or ECV as a "back up plan". Walk with her now-with DR permission of course, take the numbers to offsite rental companies with you so you are prepared just in case. If you look on the disabilities thread you will find several companies that rent chairs/ecvs for alot less that renting from Disney and they deliver right to your resort. You can also find the info for renting from Disney in the parks on the Disabilities thread.

My dad had a mini-stroke a few years ago and has been to WDW several times since. He *refuses* to get a wheelchair or an ECV. (I think it's a pride thing.) He'll be 70 next month.

He can't stand/walk for extended periods of time (I'm not really sure if that's a result of the stroke or not. He also has osteoperosis.) We just try to go at his pace and make sure he gets on plenty of sit-down rides. He loves the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, Buzz Lightyear, the Railroad, etc. Those are nice breaks.

Good luck with your trip.
