anyone been to Tokyo Disneyland/DisneySea?

Beth

We went to Disneyland Tokyo in June 2002 and really enjoyed it. The first thing you see as you are walking towards the park on a clear day is the amazing backdrop of Mount Fuji in the distance.

There are only a few things that are different to DLP, WDW, DL etc.

EVERYBODY sits to watch the parades, even if you are video taping. Just take your park map and then sit on it, crosslegged!

No autographs. No touching, hugging etc. Not the done thing in Japan!

Everybody is really polite - no pushing, shoving etc.

Much of Mainstreet USA is undercover - due to weather I guess

Lots of really good merchandise - they incorporate Mount Fuji into the logo

Good range of food and drinks - my kids enjoyed the Teryaki burgers!!

Really easy to get to by train. If you get a JR pass the fare is included.

We all enjoyed our trip to Japan and my kids (then 4 and 7) remember so much about it and still talk about it.

This is my latest, greatest 'to do'. The only thing which bothers me slightly is that I won't understand what's going on. Fiona, how did you find it?

Have you checked out the official site?

And if you've got a spare couple of hours on your hands, take a look at Barry Bedford's site.

thanks! I actually was in tokyo disneyland (in 1984!! - not too long after it first opened)....
it's funny, the way you described it is very much as it was then...

we're especially looking forward to seeing tokyo disneysea...
i think we'll stay at the mira costa for a few days to make it easier...
i figure a few days in tokyo, a few days at the mira costa and then a few days in kyoto....and then back home...
we have to fly via hong kong....so i guess we'll do a few days there as well...
i suppose i'd better start on the reservations...

i see you were there in the summer, which is when i was there...
i wonder what it's like in the dead of winter....it does get very cold in japan...

UKDEB -- we posted at the same time so i only saw your post now...
i don't know what tokyo disneyland is like now, but back in 1984 everything was in japanese.....but we understood every word...and not because we speak japanese, because we don't.....it was because everything was a direct translation of everything we already knew by heart in english...
so when we went on the jungle cruise we actually laughed.....it was funny.....
i don't know if any of this is true today.....but at that time it totally didn't matter that we couldn't understand a word, we had a great time...
