Anyone been to the Petting Farm lately?

It was announced a while back that all animals from the petting farm would be removed and that area would now house Horses and Ponies only. So sad I think. I think this is also the reason they are rounding up and removing the peacocks (they won't have anyone left to care for them).

So has anyone been there lately that can report what is going on in that area?

Was there about 2 weeks a go no more petting zoo it is now a veiwing zoo only. All the animals where still there you just can't go in the cages anymore the gates are locked.

The pigs and a few goats are staying. I was told the pigs were too fragile to move. The peacocks were being trapped and transported to the AK. I was told (by more than one cm) that people were complaining that the peacocks were scratching their campers and vehicles because they see the reflections on themselves in the shiny paint. I did manage to see one peacock (same one because of a bum leg) that hung around the 100 loop. All the other animals from the zoo (donkeys, sheep, cow, chickens and some goats) are now gone. :confused3

This is really so sad I think. The petting zoo has been at Fort Wilderness from the beginning it seems. I don't really believe what they say about why they're getting rid of the peacocks. Those peacocks have been wandering around the campground for decades. How is it just now a problem they have to address? And that coincidently it's occuring at the same time at the petting zoo is shutting down.

Just another classic sight at Fort Wilderness gone. sigh.
- River Country
- Discovery Island
- the beautiful swamp trail with boardwalk areas
- the steam train
- the fun trams
- live entertainment at Trails End
- make your own pizza
- swimming in Bay Lake
- hammocks on the beach
- deli at the Meadows trading post
- soft serve ice cream at the trading posts
- clear waterways (no green algae) for enjoyable canoe & paddleboat trips
- Melvin the Moose breakfast show at Pioneer Hall
- lawn mower tree (the lawnmower is now almost grown over)
- marshmallow swamp evening activities
- themed "tree trunk" garbage cans
- Crockett's Tavern
- Highly themed and fun playgrounds
- Classic soundtrack to the Electrical Water Pageant
- Pool hopping at the Polynesian and Contemporary
- Top of the World Dinner show a boat ride away

... and now the petting farm and the peacocks

But hey, at least they still have the tetherball!
but that's an accident waiting to happen... Wait til the disney lawyers catch wind that kids are allowed to play with a heavy-ish ball attached to a long rope!

Anybody else remember Fort Wilderness fun that is no longer?

Did you really mean to include Crocketts Tavern? Last time I was there in April it was still open.

Anyway, I miss the old, politically incorrect logo - Mickey with the musket.

The old logo... and the old entrance sign! That's a great one FtWildernessGuy!

My wife and I worked on the list and she posted it.

As for Crockett's Tavern, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere just recently that it was being converted into more seating space for the Trail's End. Does anyone know more about this? Has it been done? Will it be done? Or am I dreaming?

Not to seem too naive, but why is pool hopping not possible any more? Is there some way Disney prevents this?

Also, I'm disappointed to hear that the petting zoo won't be there, but I think after the big problems last year with lots of sick kids in Orlando it was inevitable. It really is a shame.

In the early WDW days, when there were only a couple of hotels on property and one park, pool hopping wasn't such an issue and in fact was not only allowed but encouraged, probably as a way to get people interested in staying at one of the other resorts on a return trip. Now, with 4 parks, many hotels and literally thousands of guests staying on property every day, pool hopping would be a disaster. How would you feel if you paid to stay at the Poly, decided to go for a swim and found the pool filled with hundreds of people staying at the all star resorts? So, pool hopping has been eliminated. They do control it by checking resort id's periodically, especially at the more sought after pools.
