We're thinking of taking a weekend trip in July. Does anyone know of any nice hotels, things to see and do,etc..? Thanks for any help!

Great place to go!!!!! We've been there 3 times. THe Tall Pines Motel is very nice, family owned, with clean rooms and a nice pool. Its on RT 9 right inbetween the outlet stores and the lake. Surfside on the lake motel is a definate No-No. Its right on the lake but VERY dirty. We had booked it ahead of time and we stayed for 4 hours and checked out. Then went to the Tall Pines and were very pleased.

THe Great Escape amusement park is fun, it has a water park too, included in the price.

Lots of mini golf places, and ice cream shops.

Obviously there is the lake, my kids liked it but they have more fun at the ocean. There are lots of little souvenier stores in the main part of the town.

THeres a A&W root beer restaurant were you can eat in your car and the waitress comes up with the tray that goes on the car door. Fun cuz its different.

Hope this helps, have fun!!!!!!

I can't help with hotels there, but this is what we did the last time we went to that area. We stayed at a hotel in Albany and used that as our base. It was an easy drive to Lake George (did a day there), the amusement park, Saratoga (love the race track), and Fort Ticondaroga (Spelling?).

Oh, we also went to Cooperstown and Cave of the Winds. Again all within an easy drive of Albany.

There is a great hotel called the Sagamore, on the Lake which is very beautiful but $$$$$$. I stayed once on business (paid by the company!) and it was just great. They have a website too that I would check out.

Otherwise. most of the motels are small family run types. But there is a pretty nice Holiday Inn there that I have also stayed at that I would reccomend.

Have fun!

I've done the Sagamore before. While it is BEAUTIFUL, my family vowed never to stay there again. Why not? Because most people are there on business, paid by the company, while we felt like we were the only one paying out of our pocket. It is also not near Lake George Village, and is around Diamond Head, a different town.

I go every year and have tried various hotels. Be careful, some are dumps. We have stayed at the Georgian the past four years. It is right on the lake, close to the village, and the rooms are clean and not too pricey.

Evil Princess,
That's too funny about the Sagamore! When I was there I saw lots of families with kids and I felt sad that I was there alone.

That being said, I have never returned there with my family due to the cost. Its not that I can't afford it, I just don't want to spend it on a hotel, if you know what I mean. I have never stayed at the Georgian, but I have heard nice things about it. It is also true that there are some real "dumps" that I always wonder "Who would stay there?".

My family actually had a home on the lake, so I spent most of my summers there. That's why I don't have much experience with the local motels. Its only recently that the house was sold that we have needed to look into other accomodations if we wanted to travel there.

But the Sagamore is truly the very nicest hotel/resort on Lake George. That does not mean that there are not many other very nice options. Its just so hard to choose a hotel in an area like this where there are so few "chain" motels that you feel you can rely on. Thats how we ended up at the HI which was really nice, and we also really enjoyed the restaurant there. They have an indoor pool as well as an outdoor pool which is great when the weather is questionable.
