We ate at Flying Fish last Saturday night and it was amazing!
My son had the cream of asparagus soup. We don't eat shellfish and Chef Anthony was happy to omit the lobster garnish. The rest of the soup is totally vegetarian. It was out of this world. My DS said he'd go back just for the soup!
I had the caprese salad appetizer and it was beyond delicious. The fresh mozzarella melted in my mouth, the tomatoes were succulent without being too soft, and the 8-year-old balsamic dressing was just the right level of sweetness. Yum! I had a wonderful caprese the night before at Spoodles, but the Flying Fish version was on a whole other level!
My son had the snapper but with a garlic dressing. (The usual wine sauce is made with veal stock which we don't eat, so Chef Anthony suggested the substitution.) The fish literally melted in your mouth. Soft and so flavorful!
I had the Ligurian Trofie Pasta Dumplings (vegetarian entree) and it was fantastic. The chantrelle mushrooms were so rich in flavor. The portion was huge!
We shared the Warm Chocolate-Peanut Butter Bread Pudding for dessert. I am not a fan of bread pudding but the consistency was more like a super moist chocolate cake and I really liked it. I loved the banana brittle accompaniment.
The service was excellent. We enjoyed the bread so much -- sort of a multi-grain rye -- that I asked for a couple of pieces to take out. They were happy to oblige so I also ended up with a great bread and butter for breakfast the next morning.
The restaurant is very pretty, relaxing atmosphere, and then you're steps away from the nightlife on the Boardwalk.
Overall, an excellent evening!
