if you're going because your kids are into dinosaurs, i have a better place to go. (the park seems geared to older people in my opinion). Anyways, in Montville there is a place called Natures Art that is really fun. It could be considered expensive depending how much you're used to paying for things - I found it pretty reasonable.
Going to try not to sound like an ad:
first the store part - tons of minerals, toys, dinosaur stuff, etc.
they have a room with skeletons (they charge $1.00 each or ask at the desk for a shopping pass and you can get in free)
downstairs are activities for children: sand art, spin art, digging for gems in mines, panning for gold, digging for bones. Each thing has a different charge ranging from a couple bucks up to ? 25.--or more depending how much you do and what you want with it. I know they sell package deals if you have more than one child. My 8 year old did the mine. For less than $11.00, she received a bucket and was lead into a very realistic cave. There she was given something like 10 minutes to dig in the pebbles for gems. She found alot (compared to buying them seperately she did pretty well). Then she went out to a specimen table and found the names of each one. We also cut a geode which was another $10.--.
Outside they have a huge dinosaur park - that cost $7.- for adult and $5.- for kids. (i figure it's worth it because you can spend the whole day lounging around and the money goes to buying more dinosaurs). So in the park they have a small playground, picnic tables, and really nice trails that have life-size dinosaurs throughout. I think there were about 20 when we went. They also are going to have a volcano starting memorial day (we just missed that).
wish i could get my scanner to work, I'd post some pics we took.
i can give you alot of stuff to do in ct and give you price ideas if you want
