anyone been to boma lately?

I just got off the phone with Boma directly and was told prime rib is served on wednesday and saturday night. I haven't heard back from my email yet, but I hope it concurs...

I wonder if it was brought back into the rotation since people were upset... I'm still annoyed at the manager who said prime rib was being discontinued property-wide!

Well, most of the buffets that had it on the menu DID take it off. I remember the threads about it and how up in arms some people got. So maybe that is what he meant?

did they take it off at chef mickey's and 1900 park fare? we haven't been to those places in many years, and still thought the best prime rib was at boma because of the unique flavors with the wood-grill. i guess it can become cost-prohibitive at the buffets...

but it is still on many sit-down menus, like olivia's and kona cafe to name 2 off the top of my head.

We were there on a Saturday night...and it was DEFINITELY the prime rib on the buffet in early December.

We ate at BOTH places mentioned above, and no prime rib at either one. They both had the strip loin. Again, early December.

This link was posted in thread back in December...
It has officially been discontinued...
It might show up on occasion...

What's funny is that we were there the Saturday AFTER this article came out..and the prime rib was on the buffet. It sure sounds like it's still making an occasional appearance.

let's hope patriciaH and gracienate report back in...one of them is going tonight, and one tomorrow, i believe.

We were at Boma last night (Friday, March 13). It was strip loin. We enjoyed our meal but it didnt seem as good as I remembered. Maybe it was the meat? We loved the salmon though. And the loin was okay but not incredible. We'll definately go back though.

We also had a waitress that was a bit slow and had to be asked for everything. Refills on drinks, the bill, etc. We were annoyed that she lavished attention on the tables with little kids but just did the bare minimum for us. It was very clear which tables she preferred.

lecach, thanks for the input. now i'm just waiting to see if a wednesday or saturday patron had prime rib! pilferk, my guess is that when you visited, the prime rib had been taken off for good. i bet there were complaints so they brought it back as a rotational item. that is my hope at least.

like lecach, i also remember the food being better. but now that i haven't eaten there in a while, i feel like giving it another try. i made a reservation for the end of the month...on a wednesday.

and still no word response from email to disney.

When we were there, the prime rib WAS on the buffet. That was early December, on a Saturday night.

I had a friend who went in January, and the prime rib was on one night (Wednesday, he said) and off on Sunday night.

I've read reports of both (on and off) up through February.

Sorry for the confusion...there's been so much back and forth. I hope that clears up my experience and anecdotal info for everyone.

thanks for clarifying, pilferk! i'm going to just keep my fingers crossed that it's on in 2 weeks!

You know, I checked my dates and I was there on a Wednesday in January and it was the beef loin, not the prime rib. :confused3

Todd&Copper, thanks for checking that. i guess i will just have to wait 2 more weeks to find out if it's there or not!

i wonder how patriciaH and gracienate fared....

boma used to be one of our favorite restaurants at WDW. the last time we ate there (october or november), we found that our favorite item on the buffet, the prime rib, was replaced with a different cut of meat - strip loin maybe? it really wasn't to our liking in the same way that the prime rib was, and when we asked about the change, the answer was that prime rib was being removed from all the restaurants across disney property. we were actually quite upset about it (like i said, it really was our favorite, and pretty much our main reason for eating there!!!), especially since the menu posted out front still listed prime rib as being served...

in the meantime, we've been back to WDW another time or two, and have eaten at other restaurants on property that still listed prime rib on their menus. grr...

i recently read a recent review of boma that said the prime rib was really good. so i'm wondering if the prime rib is back, or if the reviewer just mistook the carved strip loin for prime rib.

if anyone has been to boma lately, could you report on the meat carving station? is it prime rib or strip loin?

thanks! :thumbsup2

i was there in february and they had the strip loin

maybe they rotate the meats, one night prime rib one night strip loin:confused3

I believe that there are two nights where prime rib is served instead of the strip loin. Saturday seems to be one of the nights and trying to find out the other.

The Boma menu rotation is as follows:

Monday: Menu A
Tuesday: Menu B
Wednesday: Menu C
Thursday: Menu A
Friday: Menu B
Saturday: Menu C
Sunday: Chef's Pick

Wether the Prime Rib is a permanent part of Menu C or not, I have no idea. My favorite menu is the one with the coconut curry stew and coconut rice and coconut tiramisu. Spot a trend here? ;)

Thanks for the menu info. I have been watching this thread.

I was at Boma last Thursday. The prime rib has been replaced by a sirloin. They also had excellent ribs that night plus salmon.
