Anyone been to Barcelona recently?

Hi all

My 17 year old niece is off to Barcelona with college in a couple of weeks and so far they've been really rubbish about giving out any sort of info (my sister doesn't even know who they're flying with!) Main thing that's worrying us is not knowing how much money to take; they're staying in a youth hostel and will have to pay for all their own meals. We've no idea how much money she should be taking with her, not a clue as to how much food will be out there. I'm thinking that £50 per day would cover food (that's about how much I'd recommend if someone was visiting London and didn't want to eat at McDonald's every meal!) What do other's think?

We went to Barcelona in August, pre Disney cruise. I would say that £50 per day sounds fair. We found that restaurant prices were fairly similar to the UK. The only thing we found expensive there was entry to the tourist attractions, but that is obviously the same everywhere!

If you're saying the £50 is for the entire day including breakfast, lunch and dinner and snacks in between then she might be a little stuck to be honest.
If you want to avoid fast food chains you are still looking at around €13-€20 for a main course in most mid range restaurants. You'll find a lot of cheaper places around Las Ramblas that will sell burgers, pizza etc for about €8/€9 for a main course.
But for evening time, I think they'd be more inclined to splash out a little.
That, of course, depends on the location of the restaurant. There are the less touristy areas around Barcelona that are far more reasonable than Las Ramblas.
