I just got done with a WONDERFUL experience in dealing with "emilysmom" renting points for BLT. Rented last July and stay was this this month.
Our trip was a couple of weeks ago and everything was great. Looks like I may need to try to find someone else to go thru this time and was just wondering if there had been any/many negative experiences here.
Seems like if someone has a number of posts and you can track their history here there shouldn't be much
risk involved. Am I wrong?

I agree that if someone has posted a lot on these boards for several years, it would seem safer to me.

Keep in mind that the potential for problems can run both ways with a buyer and seller. Renting points is very much a trust situation when dealing with someone you haven't met. If you don't find someone you feel comfortable with, you can always go to David's who is a sponsor of these boards.

But even David and the other brokers can't keep an unscrupulous owner/faux owner from canceling the reservation. They still get half or more of the money for the rental. Or an owner who hasn't paid their dues from losing their points through foreclosure.

True. I guess what anyone wanting to go this route needs to know is that they are ultimately dealing with an individual owner. Disney will not "back" any transaction if it goes awry. So there is risk involved.

I should point out that thousands of reservation rentals are done each year and it is very rare to hear of an issue.

David will, however, give you a refund if it happens - you are out your room, but at least you aren't out the money - and can use the money to pay for other accomodations. That's a better deal than getting truly scammed.

I only remember reading of one, maybe two, issues in the years I've been on the DVC boards. And I feel like they were both resolved. I could be misremembering, though!

Thanks everybody......I'm actually thinking very strongly about simply buying in myself now. LOL! Looking at resell and what we are currently spending just renting points I can't see a reason not to.

If you have had a good experience with a member, contact her/him to ask if you can contact them in the future to see if they have any points available.

There have been very few issues with DVC rentals that we know of. But not all of them were resolved successfully; there have been some losses.

We are renting points this trip. I have been a little nervous, because our renter has not been very good about getting back to us when we email her. However, our reservation is still in MDE, so I am hoping that is a good sign. I will report back in October. I do think I will go through David's next time. It could be false security, but I think I will feel more secure that way.

Make sure you don't rent a reservation from other sites that are fixed seven night stays (Fri to Fri, Sat to Sat or Sun to Sun). Most of those are RCI trades and are not supposed to be sold. Your reservation could be canceled by either DVC or RCI or both. Many times they note a $95 fee is required at check in.

We've rented points from here a handful of times when we've run out of our own and need another Disney fix. Have never had an issue!

If you have the cash, buy!! I highly recommend it. It's decades worth of Disney... And you can always resell. If you resell, you will likely recoup a large portion of your initial sunk cost (unless Disney changes the resale rules, or DW blows up, or something).

My next door neighbors just sold their BCV and vero. They said they made some money on BCV and didn't lose that much on vero. Their kids are 16-24, so they aren't going to Disney anymore. They loved their dvc and just took a last hurrah trip to aulani as a couple before divesting in Dvc.

I love my dvc!

I personally wouldn't recommend financing but that's just the frugal in me.
