Anyone backing out?

You said it....IMO. I don't disagree necessarily, but people can make educated gambles. The change the other day wasn't pulling perks from everyone, it was pulling perks from specific people.

No need to tell people that just got a gut punch that it shouldn't hurt.

Oh, it hurts for sure. I'm just trying to put it in perspective. If they took this away in 2 months I'm guessing you would probably be just as mad. And even though it doesn't directly affect me it affects the value of what I own, and even though I didn't count on the current perks I have, I certainly don't want them to go away.

I know you are not happy with this turn of events, but maybe it is a blessing in disguise. If the perks really are a deal breaker, you may have an opportunity to get out of it before it is too late.

As an example of disappeared perks (or diminshing ones), the "new" Gold DVc pass has the black out dates for when we usually go, and the pass with all dates is MUCH more than the basic DVC AP last year--so I feel like that AP discount just disappeared overnight for us.

The problem is, ANY of those perks could have gone away the day after you closed. They could yank the AP discount from ALL of us tomorrow. If it was used in part of the equation, it shouldn't have been IMO.
The AP discount was not part of my decision to buy, but it does seem entirely unfair to say after my contract has been signed that now I am not entitled to the same perks as someone who bought direct, those perks should be removed from everyone that owns DVC, or anyone under contract should be entitled to the same thing as anyone that was already an owner.... It just seems to have changed things.

You are correct. And I doubt this will be the last such change.

You WILL still be a DVC Member. I don't get how people are saying otherwise. If you're not a DVC Member, then you sure as the world can't be calling MS and booking a DVC resort on points. It just won't happen.

I understand expectations and get how you and others are disappointed. I've been disappointed when both DVC and WDW have pulled favorable discounts, ticket options, valet parking, etc. BUT, I bought a timeshare for accommodations, not a discount program. If whomever sold you your resale was "selling" the perks, then shame on them. But it is each of our responsibility to know what we are buying and what the contract says. Owning a DVC Membership has been awesome for me and mine because of the accommodations I can book because of it. My discounts have come and gone. And they will continue to come and go. But until 2042, I have access to some pretty amazing accommodations.
But you will not be issued a membership card. So I guess you won't be " a card carrying member".

I may decide to back out. I knew that the extras could be taken away...However, I never thought they would take them away from just the resales and after I'd made my offer, but before I closed. I was on the fence anyway. Why buy when I could just rent? The only answer is the "extras" maybe it doesn't matter for some, maybe in the long run it won't matter. No Top of the World, no pool hopping, no Epcot lounge, no discount on annual passes that stuff adds up in value.(No matter how many members of this forum try to shame me, it is worth less) If my deal gets stopped in ROFR, I won't be buying.

I don't think anyone has said it shouldn't "hurt" that folks in the midst of buying resale just found out they will not be eligible for the transient perks. For myself, I've share multiple times how I've felt as a very longtime owner who bought retail btw, when perks were removed. But I still owned and still do own a great product, which is what I bought- a Disney TS.

I think what I find perplexing is that there is so much tunnel vision. Other TS have restrictions on resales. I know this firsthand. And lots of other TS have VIP type programs. I know this firsthand as well with another high-end TS I own. Why should I expect every single perk that folks that bought retail at that other TS when I bought one of my weeks on the secondary market for a fraction of the price that they paid? I do NOT expect the same little extra options. I bought a great TS resale at a great price. I don't care that I'm not their "Executive" or "Chairman" level. I own at one of the highest demand properties in that chain and I book my week with only minor differences from folks that "paid the piper" for those designations.

I think DVC's mistake was not delineating a difference in resales from the beginning because as has been said so many times, it feels worse to have had ( or I suppose to almost have had) something and have it taken away. That said, again ALL members resale or not, have the exact same contracts. Perks are not ever promised to any of us and they have changed over and over during the 25 years of DVC.

Heavens! Please actually read the new restriction. TOWL and pool hopping ARE going to continue for folks that close on resales starting 4/04/16!!

If you are already a member, go and log into your DVC account. There you should find precisely what is and isn't available to you. Please don't depend on the snippets you may have read here.

I hear you, but I own another pricey TS and they don't give a member card at all. I bought retail. NO member card. Just my online account with my number.

Taking benefits away from a select group is "discrimination" .

I'm sorry but it is not discrimination. As many have said, lots of other TS have VIP type programs. I own one of those "other" TS and though I paid a great deal for what I bought retail, I also own a resale week with them. By your terms I am "discriminated" against because I do not have the same options with that week. But I paid a great deal less because I bought resale. I have my glorious week, I just don't have some minor extra perks. But I saved a truckload buying on the secondary market. If we reversed the situation, is it discriminatory to those of us that paid retail for DVC that those that bought at bargain resale prices have had all the discounts/perks all this time? Something to ponder.....

You need your membership card to get into TOWL, but resale owners will not be issued a card.

I do not know exactly how that will work, but the text in the new rules clearly states that perk WILL still be available for resale members. I do know this: resale members that purchased (or closed, whatever the deal is now) 4/04/16 or after will be able to download a version of membership. It will not be an image of a Member ID like is available to those that purchased before, but it will show membership with a member number. I would assume that will allow admission.

Where can I read these? I haven't been able to find them. I'm not a DVC member, just in ROFR so I can't go to the source. From what I am reading here even transportation from the airport to the parks is in question. You'll have to excuse the ignorance of those of us are just under contract, NOT MEMBERS NO DVC account.

Now that it seems that those of us in the buying process won't be grandfathered in, is anyone considering backing out? I know that it's really not the end of the world, but this new announcement has really left me questioning my decision.
Yes, we are in the middle of our first purchase of DVC resale points scheduled to close in just 2 weeks. We are definitely questioning our decision, although the incidentals and some of the perks are not a big deal, getting a membership card is and overall treatment. It seems to us that we will now be second to the Disney members that purchased direct. We do want to be treated like second class owners, and that's our fear... Previously we would've had a membership card so workers at Disney would not know the difference now they will.

I'm not sure I understand.

The only time I need my card is for the perks. I didn't need it at check in. Housekeeping didn't need to see it. It was only if I got a discount.

If you aren't concerned about losing the perks, why are concerned about not getting a card?

I'm in ROFR. I'm also a current DVC owner. I definitely bought into DVC for the savings, whether it's discounted rooms or tickets. I enjoy taking my family and friends with me and use my discounted rooms and benefits, so that benefits my whole family (even the non-DVC members). Less benefits would have definitely effected the way I negotiated my contract and whether or not Disney has the power to take away those benefits or not, doesn't excuse the fact that entered into a contract without knowledge of the reduced benefits. Call it what you will, but I expected more out of Disney's customer service.

Oh dear, so sorry you don't have access. If you are using a broker, they should have been sent all the details from Disney and they can share all the details with you. Here is a link to the revised Member Benefits document that is a part of all contracts:

https://disneyvacationclub.disney.g...formembers/memberbenefitsguide/MEADSFinal.pdf

I saw a document someone had that clearly stated that pool hopping and TOWL would definitely still be included. And I truly do not see them taking stuff like Magical Express away. That is something that is in place for anyone staying anywhere on WDW property.

The card only needed to be shown to get discounts and into special events. If you don't get them then you don't mention it. You don't need to show it to check in etc. and it seems like you'll have the digital version for pool hopping or TOTWL. The CM's really won't care.
