Please don't think I'm crazy..... I just got back from POR last week with my family. While there, we came upon a duck behind the restaurant on the path to Alligator Bayou building 18 that is there each morning. His bill is 3/4 missing from a snapping turtle injury and makes it difficult for him to eat. My daughter, age 4 and I fed him everyday by putting cornbread or plain crackers in a ziplock sandwich bag. he would put his head in and eat. I tried to have the duck rescued by the Central Florida Wildlife resuce organization, but the Disney property will not alow any outside agency on their property. I talked to the manager at the hotel and he assures me the duck has been there for a few years like that. So, if anyone is going there, can we pass on (IF you are staying in buildings 14,18 or 27 (I think are the closest) - this is a vacation, so I don't expect anyone to go out of their way... but if you happen to be there, can you check on my duck friend???? My daughter named "her" Petunia from the Spash mountain ride, but I understand it is a male. I'll double check on that though. BTW, I loved the hotel... the bus situation is nervewracking, but my husband was lugging a double stroller for my 4 and 5 year old girls.... The lines seemed long coming back to the hotels at night, but over all it went pretty fast, and MK had two bussed at the stop at the end of the night. Overall, I think everyone is cranky tired at the end of a long day, so a crowed bus is way more of an issue at night that it is in the morning on the way to the park. Not too many crabby pants in the am!!!!!!!!

I won't be staying at POR but I just had to write to tell you what a sweet story. We are planning on checking out some of the resorts. If we stop by POR we will definitely look for Petunia!

how nice you are!!! i do hope they can get the duck some help, maybe an animal rescue group in florida can be notified?

I don't think you're crazy at all! We are big animal lovers here and my oldest wants to be a vet. We will be at POR(AB section) in 3 weeks, and I'll definitely look out for "Petunia"(along with the rest of my family). I can assure you that if we find her, my oldest(18) will have a coniption(sp? and is this even a word) fit! She would rather stay with Petunia than go to the parks. :goodvibes :goodvibes

We love all the nature at Disney World and when I look back at our photos, I think we have more of ducks, and bunnies, and even Sandhill Cranes than anything else!

But, if the duck is living on Disney grounds, he'll be taken care of. If he's out and walking around with no assistance, he can eat on his own. Disney is very aware of animals and if there was something that needed to be done for the duck, it would already be taken care of. I don't think the duck would be out and about if he couldn't take care of himself.

OMG..I think I talked to you one morning when you were with your daughter feeding the ducks. I was walking back with my son from breakfast and I think your daughter told us about the duck and my son (he's six) was very worried about him and kept telling me all day about how we had to help this duck.

I have to agree with you about the resort, it was our first stay last week (the 15th-22nd), but we feel in love with the resort! We booked before we left for the bounceback program. :wizard:
