I want to be positively certain that we can use the unused value of a hopper to purchase the discounted annual pass offered by DVC. I called, and Member Services says yes, only at a Guest Services desk. Anyone done this before?

Yes you can. I checked several options before going with the 10 day MYW tickets, including the DVC Discounted AP.

My recommendation is if you are not really sure what ticket will work best for your situation, use the Guest Services at DTD. There are 2 locations and they were never really busy (no lines) so I didnt feel pressure to hurry up and make a decision. They (CM's) were really patient (as im sure they all are) but at EPCOT, there was a long line of people who werent too happy with my indecisiveness :confused3 :rolleyes1

Thanks, Liferbabe. This info is exactly what I was looking for!

One thing to note is that you get the per day value at the time paid, not the current value of that type of ticket. Say you had a 4 day pass that originally cost $100 and there are 2 days left, you get $50 in credit even if todays 4 day ticket costs about $200. And plus options are worth nothing. Plus you can only trade one ticket per new pass. I've heard if you bought from a TA, they could it for what the discount price was to the TA but don't know that for certain.

To add to what Dean said -- I had an old ticket that I wanted to trade. The CM asked if there was anyway I could use it. The ticket was several years old and using it was a better value. I decided to use it. I was quite pleased with the CM.

Hi there,

I'm a newbie and have a question to add to this thread. How would I know what the value of an older hopper ticket is? I have 2 tickets left over from our last trip that we didn't get to use. Is this a question that customer service would answer for me? Should I call a ticket center at disney? Thank you all SOOO MUCH for all of the great info on this board! We just bought our first points this week and I'm SO EXCITED! Now I feel like I'm HOME. :earsgirl: :jumping1: :earsgirl:

I think you have to take it to guest relations to get that info. If it's more than a year you're likely better off just keeping and using them when you can as they never expire. I've had many times where I bought a specialty ticket with multiple valid passes sitting in my travel wallet and kept them until the time was right. But it depends on your specific circumstances. For example, if you're getting a 10 day non expire pass, look at the per day of what you're trading in. If it's more, do it, if not, keep them.

Just wanted to agree with Dean on how the passes are valued.

I had a slew of old passes and a couple that had not been used that I purchased thru TicketMania and 2 AP Vouchers I received for our SSR add-on.

The only way to check how many days are left on a pass and the residual value is to take your passes to WDW Guest Relations in person. They cannot tell you anything over the phone. (and I mean this in a nice informative way :goodvibes )

The AP Vouchers I received from my Addon @ SSR were worth face value $379+Tax because they were purchased directly from Disney and given to me as an incentive.

I purchased the special 5+4 hopper passes from TicketMania last year. I paid $270.00. When I checked the value of these unused passes at GR in DTD, they were only worth what Ticketmania paid Disney for them (not what I paid) and that was $255.30 a loss of $14.70.

These passes had 4 plus days on it and as stated, they are not worth anything when upgraded, so I decided to keep them initially.

We were at WDW for a month and after my PAP expired mid trip, I later used 1 plus on my 5+4 at Blizzard Beach.

I returned to GR@DTD as I was contemplating renewing my PAP with the DVC Discount and since we had used days etc. checked my leftover passes again.
I had used 1 plus from the 5 day pass, and that only decreased the value by 50 cent, so in theory, I could have used the plusses up and then traded in the ticket with less than $3 loss in trade in value so the plusses really are close to free.

I instead, traded it in for a 10 day+5 and didnt renew the PAP because my Dh and boys would much rather do DQ and WP then go to the parks.

We actually spent more upfront than we would have if we purchased the DVC PAP, but based on our touring style, we would have wasted the park days and mainly used the PAP to visit DQ and the WP's. We were there for a month and visited theme parks a total of 5 days (and 3 of those were US/IOA).

So we purchased 10 day hoppers no exp. for Dh and the boys for multiple trip use (should last 3 years) and then DQ/WP AP's (which we used daily) that we will renew annually and is an excellent value considering DQ closes at midnight or 1 am on a regular basis.

If you have lots of old passes, take a pad and pencil and a calculator with you and take your time to figure out the best scenario for your family. That's why I liked the DTD GR location, very low key and they didnt mind giving me the costs of the different passes then me going to sit down and figure out what would work best for us. I was up and down quite a bit with questions and they were always helpful and understood.

It's a pain that you can only check it there and can't do it from home but it is best to take your time because passes are a major purchase and with DVC, you have to consider future trips and timing.

HTH!

I recently found a 3 day ticket from 1984 with 2 days remaining on it. The advice I have gotten is to use that ticket and not use it towards a new purchase.

We have 2 MYW passes that had 10 days when I bought them in Feb. We used 4 days in April. I didn't get the plus options. Can we add the options? Or can we trade them in for an upgrade? How cost effective would that be if we decided that we really want the options?

Thanks so much for all of your help! I will take our 2 passes we have the next time we go and see what the value is. We bought them directly from Disney 2 years ago. I plan to use the DVC discount to get season passes as we plan to go for 6 days two times in less than 52 weeks, so I think we'll save a couple of hundered dollars by doing the season passes.
Again, thanks for all of the great info here! I LOVE this site! ;)

The two passes that I'm interested in applying are actually "complimentary" one-day park hopper passes that I won in a charity auction. I suspect that they were issued by Disney for the cause. I e-mailed them to find out if they retain value that can be applied to the purchase of an annual pass. No response as of yet, but I just sent it yesterday.

If they say complementary on them they have no value and they will not give you a discount on another pass. These are usually park hopper passes so save them until you get get the best value from their use. While technically not transferable, you could also sell them to someone else and apply that toward another type of ticket.

You have to be a FL resident to buy and activate seasonal passes, did you mean Annual Passes.
