Anyone allergic to Zithromax?

Oh no! You poor thing. That is one of the few I can take. Are you taking Benadryl?

My DS5 is. His lasted about 2.5 - 3 days.
Happened over a weekend when he was 8 mos old.

Benedryl did the trick. We never had a problem with breathing issues and he didn't seem to be uncomfortable or itchy.

I am very sorry. I hope you are all better soon.

I took the Zithromax 3 pack 11 days ago.

I'm still waiting for the hives to go away. I'm going to give it a few more days.

I assume it is from the Zithromax. I had a surgical procedure done the day before the rash started that involved a product made with nickel. I'm really hoping that I'm not having a reaction to the nickel.

I've been taking Benadryl every day.

I'm gald to hear your son is okay. :wave2:

That's pretty long for hives to last from an allergic reaction to an antibiotic (after you stopped taking it).
Have you called your doc?

Were you exposed to anything else?

I hope your hives improve soon.

You may want to talk to your doctor soon. Almost 2 years ago I had something I was allergic to and it sort of set off something in my body and I still can't get rid of the hives. Not saying yours would be anything like that but it would be best to talk to your doctor to see what else they can do to help you. If it doesn't get better soon they can give you a pack of prednisone to help you get over it. Sorry you are dealing with this. Hope it gets better for you real soon.

I guess I'll call my Dr. in a few days.

I was thinking that I'm still having the reaction because the Zithromax stays in your system for 10 days.

I can't take Prednisone because I had the Essure procedure (it's like having a tubal without the scar) and the coils they put in your fallopian tubes are suppose to form scar tissue. I guess they won't do this if you are taking Prednisone.

I don't want to think it's from the nickel. I don't think I would be able to leave these coils in if I am allergic to them.

UGH! I'm hoping my Dermatologist will be able to tell what it is from.

Of course, I hope I wake up tomorrow and all the hives are gone.

I was exposed to Iodine during the procedure. I guess some people are allergic to that. :confused3

One of my kids. Hives lasted a week.

We've got lots of allergies, iodine is one of them.

Zithromax is one of the few antibiotics I can take, allergic to all the popular ones.

Have you contacted the prescribing physician? If the hives are not going away with Benadryl, they can prescribe you a steroid that should make them go away within a few hours, you may be able to take it now even if you were not able to pre-surgery.

Make sure you inform any doctors that you had this allergic reaction whenever you are being prescribed drugs. Reactions tend to be worse with each exposure. If you had an allergic reaction to Zithromax, you should not take any antibiotics in the Erythromyicin (sp?) class of antibiotics.

I had a reaction-hives for several days. Took two Benydryls each night to combat it.
I'm an adult and the doc said two. I stopped taking the med immediately and my reaction is on every docs chart I see. They told me at the time that reactions to it were rare.
