Please help!

We've been struggling :confused3 to find a sunscreen that my DS is not allergic to. Has anyone had this problem & if so which suncreens have been ok for the person w/ allergies.

Thanks!

I second the Neutrogena Sensitive Skin sunblock...my son had a terrible reaction to several sunscreens earlier this year and so far this is the only one that doesn't make him break out in a rash all over the place...

I have also heard REALLY good things about California Baby sunscreen from the Natural Family Living forum I belong to. It is PABA and chemical free....you can do a search on the web for it... supposedly great stuff!

I hope you find something that works for your son!

I second the nuetrogena. I had the hardest time finding sunblock that wouldnt react on the more sensitive areas (back of knees, face).
Nuetrogena is great!

Thanks!

Sometimes the Neutrogena bothers him & sometimes it doesn't. I just want to find one that will never bother him.

I'll check out the CA Baby one too. Thanks!

Any other ones?

I have reactions to lots of different screens, but Bullfrog always works without making me bumpy and itchy.

The Arbonne sunblock in the babycare line is great. Hypo allergenic. You shoud definately give it a try. Go to the Arbonne website.

My daughter's allergist recommended Neutrogena Sensitive Skin, and she has not had any reaction to it. The only problem is that the bottle doesn't say it is waterproof (it doesn't say it ISN'T waterproof either, though!). We also use the waterproof Neutrogena sunscreens, but the active ingredient is different. My DD has not had a reaction to those either, so we use the waterproof kind for swimming. As a PP said, the Sensitive Skin formula is titanium dioxide. Neutrogena has a new sunscreen called Ultra Sheer - it is not greasy going on, and my kids like that!

we use the Avon Skin so soft sunscreen..its a 30 i believe. My 4 yo has VERY sensitive skin and this doesn't bother her at all, and it has a bug guard in it :thumbsup2

My daughter has a hard time with sunscreens as well (she has eczema) and the doctor reccomended Neutragena but I could not find it anywhere. I did however try the Aveeno sunscreen for babies that just came out. We were at the world a few weeks ago and it worked great. No allergic reaction and it didn't burn her skin. My Mom has eczema on her hands so I asked her if it hurt and she said that it was the first sunscreen that didn't burn her hands (when she was putting it on the kids). I highly reccomend it. If you buy it get more than one as the tubes are only 4oz. It is also cheapest at Target- I found this out after I bought it at Eckerd. I hope this helps. princess:

Neutrogena is sometimes not sold on the big sunblock displays, but in the ladies' skin care section, with the face scrubs, moisturizer, etc.

My dd's have very dry sensitive skin and allergies to sunscreen and we use Eucerine facial moisturizer. It was recommended by the pediatrician a few years ago and even though they can use something else in a pinch now we use that most of the time. It isn't a traditional sunscreen but it does has an SFP of 25, I find it in the in the moisturizer section at the Wallgreen, CVS type stores.

My son can only use the Water Babies (pink bottle) sunscreen. He breaks out in a red bumpy rash with every other type. We have never had any problems with this type, the only thing you have to remember is to reapply VERY often. :thumbsup2

Thanks for so many options to try. We go see a dermatologist on Tues b/c this current rash (since last Thurs) won't go away. I'll let you know if I get anymore recs & which one finally does work. We have to figure this out fast. We leave for WDW in 8 days & the cruise a few days later.

Oddly enough, I tried a few different types and my kids would break out in hives each time, most recently Water Babies by Coppertone.

I finally found two that work...Banana boat sport and Hawaiian Tropic Baby Faces.

I compared these against the ones they broke out with and the difference is, these 2 don't contain HOMOSALATE as a main ingredient.

I don't know what the stuff is, but I know it doesn't list it as a main ingredient and they haven't had a problem with the sunscreens that don't have this ingredient in it!

:sunny:

My DS would break out with the pick bottle baby stuff (dont rememer who makes it), found that if I purchased the CVS brand stuff we were fine. Go figure. He is now 13 and seems to have grown out of the allergie.

Try the health food stores- they carry sunscreens without any chemicals.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock was suggested for me. I have heard alot of people who were sensitive to sunblock used this with no problem.

I am very sensitive to sunscreen. I cannot put anything on my face without breaking out in a rash. My dermatologist told me I was most likely allergic to the preservatives in the sunscreen. I have found that the Eucerin facial lotion with SPF 30 is the only thing I can use.

i just ordered blue lizard sunscreen for my baby, I have heard very good things about it, it is chemical free, only has physical sunscreen, but i have never seen it in a store, only online.
