DO you sell your soaps? WOuld like to email someone if there's anyone out there...just made my 1st batch & I think I"m addicted! ;)

We tried our first batch this weekend. We miscalculated, and accidently used an alluminum sieve. Melted the sucker! Did you use lye, lard or oils?

Congratulations!

Well, maybe I'm not an "official" soap maker - cause I used the melt & pour kind(it was glycerin....so we melted it in the microwave & poured it into the molds & made some ADORABLE shapes--so so easy & the kiddos loved it! Now I've got to figure out what I"m gonna do with them all---they're gonna be CHrismtas presents but I still think I"m gonna have leftovers! HA HA ANd I want to make some more designs too!

Been making soap on and off for couple of years now and selling it at craft fairs and on internet. I found that I barely broke even with the price I was able to get for my product. Good quality ingredients cost money, my time, marketing, fairs and such. So I no longer do it as a side business and only do it for family and friends when asked to.

Where did you get the glycerin and the molds? I'd love to do some of these for Christmas presents (we're doing baskets anyway, and these would fit right in). About how expensive would you say they come out to be per soap?

I love making soap (I'm a melt N Pour girl too). I just wish I had more time for it. I made a bunch last Fall and made gift baskets for Christmas presents. They were a big hit. Even DH likes using my 'fancy' soaps. I like getting creative and making "multi-melt" stuff - like making pieces to later put in a larger piece or a loaf then slice them.

I've made some in the past (melt & pour kit) from Costco. It was fun.

But I really am posting to share what happened to my glycerin soaps in the Katrina aftermath - they melted!

I guess it did get pretty hot in the condo. I didn't get back until this past weekend. My condo was okay except for some wood flooring that buckled - no mold.

This made me laugh....I don't know if you've all seen Fight Club but Brad Pitt ( :lovestruc ) makes soap in that film....

...out of the stuff left over when people have liposuction!!!

I'm hoping none of you guys do this!!!!! :rotfl:

I know a woman that started a very impressive business doing this. Her website is www.goatboysoap.com If you read the link titled About Us,it's quite interesting!

Anyone care to share their soap recipes. I'm really interested in making some. Thanks!!

I just bought the melt & our from HObby LObby a couple of weeks ago when it was on sale & bought my molds then too. Then of course I had such a sgood time we ran out & bought more glycercin & paid full prive for it! But even then it wasn't a bad price....I paid $10 for 5lbs. ANd the molds I think regular price are $2.47 each. You can use candy molds too & they go on sale quite a bit @ MIchaels/HObby Lobby.
Actually I haven't figured out how much each soap cost, right now it doesnt' matter (unless I go to sell them) because my girls & niece had such a blast making them that I probably would pay dbl what I did just so we can have that memory! ;) Even my 2yo dropped in the colors & fragrance & stirred & mommy poured -she was so excited & loves using her yellow rose in her bathroom!

BUT it had me thinkng about selling them @ a craft show-maybe next year...so I was ust curious.

Haven't made a bar soap yet-think it'll be neat to try.

As far as recipes go this websire looks good---but of course I"ve never tried the recipes.....www.teachsoap.com

luvmyfam444 ~ Thanks soo much!!!! Now, I'm excited!
