Anybody visiting Disney from outside the USA?

Any other people coming from outside the USA? Let us hear about it...

Is getting to Disney expensive and require a lot more planning? In terms of VISAs, airfares and the like?

Airfares for this trip were around US$700 each, so it would have been US$3,500 for the 5 of us if we'd all had to pay! Luckily we could get 3 reservations on airmiles. We would have gotten a fourth, but a couple of the flights didn't have enough airmiles seats for 4.

Our car rental will be more expensive as well, because I'm nervous about declining the LDW, even though I have a credit card that covers it as primary insurance (incl. loss of use). If something happens, I don't want to have to manage a claims process from Barbados, where we don't have access to toll free numbers etc. It might end up being more expensive to get the paperwork in order to claim from the credit card company than it would have been to just buy the LDW - and if you have the LDW you can just walk away! If I lived in a country where I could have my own auto insurance cover me, then I could make a claim through my local insurance company and it wouldn't involve any more hassle than if I got into an accident with my own car at home! I always buy the SLI, because I don't have insurance that will cover me if I hurt somone else abroad and they sue me! Luckily that isn't terribly expensive. So, foreigners do have to deal with issues that Americans (and maybe Canadians) don't when they rent cars in the U.S.

We too need Visas to visit the US.

Airfare from Mexico is expensive too, but not as expensive as it is for some of you traveling from the other side of the world. Direct flight tickets cost about $ 700, and the trip duration is about 3 hrs. Tickets with a stop in Houston, Atlanta or Miami can cost as little as $ 450.

We always rent a car when we travel to the US (except for next trip since DH won´t be coming with us) and we decline the basic coverage since the American Express card that we use to pay for the rental has very good primary coverage, but we always get the additional insurance.

If you are planning on using ME, and your first port of entry to the US is Orlando, you will have to go through inmigration (be aware of the lines, last september we were 45 min in line), then get your luggage to go through customs, and then you will have to put your luggage in a sort of electric band in a tunnel that will take it to the main building while you board the train.

Just after customs, and before putting your luggage in the electric band, attach de yellow tags to your bags, and then you can skip the central baggage claim and proceed directly to the ME counter. We have done this twice and have never had any trouble.

If your first port of entry to the US is another airport, you will go through inmigration and customs there, so after going through customs you can attach the yellow tags before checking your bags again and then when you arrive in Orlando you can proceed directly to the ME counter.

Thanks for the info on the yellow tags. Our 1st port of entry will be Washington DC and then a connecting to Orlando.
