Anybody use 5-Hour Energy Drinks?

Okay, I am not a big coffee fan. Once in a while I will drink a hot cup of coffee, but it has to be light and sweet. I like cold coffee drinks, but again, light and sweet. I really need something in the afternoon to jump start my system and a diet soda will not do it.
Do the 5 hour energy drinks really work? If you use them, do you feel an instant burst of energy or does it just keep you from wanting to nod off?

I use them infrequently. They do work, more of a sustained energy than a sudden burst. I like them because they are only a few ounces, and I can easily take them in my carry-on bag when I am traveling with the kiddo (and can certainly use the extra energy)

My dad uses them at the racetrack when he's driving his racecar. He's still not convinced how much they help, but he keeps buying them. I notice he's not nodding off in the afternoon, like I am (I don't drink caffeine), so they must be helping him keep awake and active.

I have used them. I did not want to but I was doing the 5 hour drive to Chicago and found myself nodding behind the wheel.

It really does work. I drink coffee all the time and this was not a caffiene boost. It tastes terrible but if you drink it straight down it is not too bad.

advocare's spark drinks are much better tasting and work as well without the shakes and jitters that come from the other stuff.

I drank one of the Advocare Spark drinks once. I usually have some sort of energy gel before swim practice so my body is used to an energy boost. Once, and only once, I tried Spark before and ended up getting sick during practice.

5 Hour Energy works because it is B vitamins. If this is a daily thing, it would be better to buy a B vitamin complex. Take it with lunch and it will get you through the day. I used to take them when I was working 12-15 hour shifts.

Yep, just buy B vitamins.

I probably would have never tried one of these drinks, but about 2:00 am the day after Thanksgiving when we were in line at Walmart in the electronics Dept, an employee came around and passed them out to all of us who were waiting. I was about to pass out from being sleepy so I drank it and I was fine until lunch. I am now a believer and I will be packing some for our Dinsey trip. More specifically, to keep me awake that night that we drive down after DD graduates!

I don't use them on a daily basis but when I drive down to Fl non stop they do come in handy.
I usually leave CT at about 6 pm and drive through so I can arrive at the parks around noon. Ok, maybe 9 am, depending on traffic...
I have done this drive since 1987 at least once a year and never had problems until the past few years. Around 3 am I can really feel the drag so I drink one and make it through to WDW. I don't know what is in the air at MK but I go right into the park and can stay awake till midnight. I wonder if they add B6 to the cookie smell at the ice cream parlor.

I also use them occasionally. DH keeps them around just encase they're needed. I'm a stay at home/home schooling mom that gets up at 5 to have some "me" time and by 1 or 2 I'm in trouble sometimes!! SO, I tried these, although I'm also very... FRUGAL, I only take about 1/2 a bottle at a time, maybe even less, and they work great. No jitters, no shakes, just make the yawning and sleepiness go away. I think I will be trying some B vitamins though as PP's have said... we'll see. I have a terrible time taking pills, I have to take gummy vitamins! :goodvibes

Oh, and no, I don't get any burst of energy, just feel like I woke up from a nice refreshing nap and I'm ready to continue my day.

How long before / does it last? We may be driving to WDW later this year and plan to drive through the night to start (avoid all these NE cities!) and just wondering when it would be good to drink it? Maybe at like 11pm to get through most of the night?

I tend to fall asleep in the car. I don't know why. If I am the least bit tired at all, I fall asleep. I tried the 5 hour energy drinks last time we drove. It did nothing for me. And it does taste horrible!

I love the XS energy drinks. They have different tasty flavors (fruity or cola), are loaded with vitamin B, and low calorie/low carbs.

And, I get paid to drink it!

I have a friend who swears by them. I have tried them several times and I get no result. Not even a little boost. I think my wiring is installed backwards LOL

When I'm so tired and I sit down and about fall asleep I take a drink of one (occasionally) and within 5 min I'm "awake" again and ready to go... good till bed time but I don't know if that'd be the same driving. If I were driving I'd take an entire one when I started getting sleepy.

I am surprised they work for me, caffeine does nothing for me at all so I didn't think these would either, but they do :yay:

dh tried one and almost wound up in the hospital it made his heart beat so fast he was useless for the rest of the evening tell the next morning could hardly move because he thought he was going to pass out due to the rapid heart rate.

This is what I'm worried about. I am about to do a cross-country drive and I was going to try them for the trip but I'm worried that my heart would be all out of wack. My heart races if I drink too much caffeine or aspartame so I try to be careful with what I drink. Guess, I'll have to search for something else now!
