My blood pressure has been running high the last couple of weeks, but the last few days it's been very, very high. It was 158/108 this morning at home, so I went to the urgent care clinic this afternoon. When I got there it was 160/103, so they gave me something to lower it quickly before they would let me leave. She prescribed me lisinopril and told me to go back to my doctor next week to see how it's working. She told me about 15-20% of people who take it develop a dry cough, so if that happens I may have to change to something else. Anybody have any experience with this medication?

I've been taking Lisinopril for over 5 years and I haven't developed a cough at all. As far as I can tell, I don't really have any side effects from this medication.

I hope it works well for you :)

P.S. The dose I take is 10mg.

I take the lisinopril with the water pill added and have no problems
DH is on a 30mg pill but has only been on it a week or so not sure yet about side effects for him

HOWEVER

My Mom started taking it about a year ago
the first few month she did great than she got a cough which just wouldn't go away no matter what...it was horrible
finally they took her off the lisinopril and it is starting to get better

I take it and I am at 12.5mg. I started it 3 years ago.

When I first was on it, I did get the dry cough so my Dr. adjusted the dose lower and that did the trick.

It has kept my blood pressure almost perfect ever since. We tried for the longest time to control it with diet, but it turns out mine was genetic!

about a month ago I went to the Doctor because of an eye problem and my bp was 210/130 after talking her into not making me go to emergency, she prescribed it for me, and she swore there was no side affects, and I havent had any, and my bp is around 120/75 now

I took it for a couple weeks and developed the dry, continued all the time cough. I have asthma that is mostly controlled, 7-10 attacks a year, so the doctor said she wasn't surprised. I don't know if one had something to do with the other or not, but the other meds I take don't give me that trouble.

I stopped taking it and the cough stopped within a few days.

DH takes 20 mg and I take 10 of Lisinopril. I have been taking Lisinopril since 2003 and have not noticed any side effects.

DH has been taking it for about a year and hasn't had any coughing problems arise. He says it makes him thirsty though.

I have been taking 10 mg Lisinopril daily for about the last 3 years and get a dry cough very occasionally but I think it has been a seasonal thing and also due to climate when we moved from CA to TX and back two years later this past August. However, I'll have to watch it as I never about this.

I take 10mg/day and have had no side effects.

FYI, it's $10 for a 90 day supply at Wal-Mart and Target, I believe.

Years ago I took 20mg of Lisinopril a day and the side effect that drove me nuts was a feeling like something was stuck in my throat. I didn't cough but I felt like something was caught part way down. My doctor switched me to a beta blocker and my blood pressure did OK for a while. But eventually she put me back on 10mg of Lisinopril along with the atenolol. So far I'm doing OK on that combination.

Lisinopril is cheap and I do like to use the cheap generics whenever they are available.

Lisinopril works great for so many people, and it is true that side effects are rare, but I would suggest that if, after you first start taking it you get bad stomach pains and diarhhea, stop taking it.

I have PCOS, was on YAZ to regulate hormones, it raised my BP, was given Lisinopril. I had the cough, then terrible stomach pains that night, and bad toiletting problems. I thought it was either the medicine or something I ate, and thinking I knew best and only the cough was related to the Lisinopril, stopped the medicine.

Before my next Dr. appt. 3 weeks later, I decided to take the Lisinopril again, and that night I had terrible vomitting and diarhhea. I dehydrated, had chills and sweats, and was in such pain that when my children found me the next morning curled up on the bathroom floor crying in pain, they called the ambulance. Turns out I was one of the very few that can not tolerate the class of drugs Lisinopril was in, and I reacted negatively to it.

On the bright side, the dehydration caused my blood to become so thick it revealed a blood clot in my kidney. I lost my kidney, but since the blood clot was brought on by the birth control pills, better to lose my kidney than have a heart attack. So in an odd way, the Lisinopril did do something good, revealing that I can never take hormones because they give me blood clots (and high blood pressure!).

So while the cough can be a nuisance, if stomach problems develop, talk to your doctor. Very few people have the reaction I did, but no one told me it was a possibility, but I know now that though rare, it can happen. Lisinopril works great for most, however!:)

So far, so good. I took my first lisinopril last night, and my bp's been down considerably today. The highest it's been was right after I got home from work, and it was 135/81 then. Much improved from previous weeks!:thumbsup2 So far no cough, either, but from what I read online that could come later. Hopefully that won't show up because it's so cheap, I'd like to be able to stay on it. Thanks for all the advice/experiences!

Yes I did develop the cough but my blood pressure is now 120/70 so I'll live with the cough.
*I think it might be allergies actually-
But I am on 10mg once a day. Works great for me.

I've taken it for years, no cough.
My dad on the other hand developed it right away,
& severely, so he changed to something else.
After losing some weight after being diagnosed
with Diabetes, my BP tends to be much better.
However, my Dr. wants me to stay on Lisinopril
because it is known to aid in kidney function
& is beneficial to me because of the Diabetes.
If my BP starts falling too low, then I would no longer take it.

My Mom had the cough. It was so bad she had to change meds. You'll know pretty quickly.
