Anybody stay concierge at GCH - comments?

We just returned from our first trip to GF RPC. I would say the two are a toss up. There were some things I liked much better at GCH, such as table service for liquor in the concierge lounge. Of course, that opens up the whole tipping thing. I also liked some of the offerings at the GCH better. :)

MG

I am staying GC concierge in April, can you go into more specifics about their offerings and what you liked, please?? Do they offer individual bottles of water or just the big ones?? Any kid freindly offerings?? What kind of liqour do they offer??? Are all the concierge rooms near the lounge on the same floor??? Thanks MG.

Maistre Gracey - Thanks for all the information! :thumbsup2 I have stayed at all the WDW deluxes except WL and AKL (don't appeal to me) and the Grand FL has just become our home away from home, so the Grand CA will just be a new adventure. I was also worried about GCH because it kind of is like WL and I have never had the urge to stay there, but I like deluxe so GCH seemed the way to go. ;) I am sure we will find a lot to love about it. :) It looks beautiful.

Jen- We will have a great time. :) I am such a Walt fan & have wanted to see his park for years, so I am happy to get the chance. :goodvibes there is just that unknown factor that keeps me kind of worried, lol. When I plan a WDW vacation, I KNOW everything & can plan so easily for the perfect trip. I know exactly how to do it and what to expect. There is just some comfort in that!

THANKS for all the info!!!

Hi, TwingleMum. I will do my best with your questions:

One of my favorites, and this also qualifies as "kid friendly", are those pita style peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I'm a grown adult and can't get enough of those things, so I'm sure the kids will love them. They also had many nice cheeses, fruit, and chocolate covered strawberries. Morning was the usual array of muffins, danish and cereal. We never made it to the lounge in the evening, but I understand they have a selection of nice cordials.
We always made it for "happy hour" for pre dinner drinks. This was the best. As far as I can recall it was just beer & wine, but that suited our family perfectly. One thing we enjoyed was sitting on the outside balcony and having waitress service for our drinks. Of course we flipped her a tip when we left.

I'm sorry, i just don't remember the size of the water.

We had one of those 3 bedroom Artisan Suites so I'm not certain about the rest of the rooms, but we were on the 5th floor and the lounge was on the 6th.

Memory is starting to fade, but I hope that helps a little... :)

We stayed concierge at GCH in October and I contacted vacation planning via email on a number of things.

vacationplanning@disneyonline.com

We did not pay for the baskets, but we had the free signed photos and balloons brought to our room for the kids. If you email vacation planning they can give you a list of all the baskets that are available.

We had a great experience with the service, and there were always two people on the concierge floor designated to help you with any issues or concerns that you may have - utilize them with anything that you would like - they are a wonderful asset.

Since GCH is right off the California Adventure park it makes it such a quick way to get back to your room for a quick snack or drink. We love getting drenched on the Grizzly Rapids and then hitting the room for a bit to relax. DL is so close together you can easily hit the hotel for as many breaks as you like.

We just got back from a 5 night stay at the GCH concierge level. Our room faced the Paradise Pier area, a stunning view at night. This is the second time we've had concierge service, we have also stayed at the GCH without. IMO the best thing for us is the quick breakfast options (we are very light eaters in the morning) and the availability of snacks and especially water throughout the day. As far as any help prior to check-in from the concierge staff, it just didn't happen. I even called to see if I could find out the direct number to see if they could help me with a few things before check-in, I was told to go through the general guest services. Before arriving I had guest services make our dining reservations and was told that the concierge would have my itinerary when I checked in. I asked about it and was told to go back to the front desk and ask for it since they didnt' seem to have it...I did, but I thought it would have been nice to have them take care of it.
It really doesn't seem as though they are able to do much more for you than guest services would as far as special perks or anything - but it is nice to have someone sitting right there to answer any questions for you.
Whether you decide to stay with concierge service or just a standard room, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the GCH. The main reason we stay there is for convinience to the parks. We like the DL Hotel too, but this one is just so much closer.

Oh, yes! The chocolate strawberries..almost forgot about those. That almost makes it worth the price! The water are those small bottles of Dasani water..it's not the regular 8oz size, more like half of that.

They are just little bottles of water and soda in two small refrigerators. For the afternoon snack they did the PB&J uncrustable sandwiches - a big hit with my kids. They did storytelling with cookies and milk at night for the kids when we were there. The liqour is beer and wine. I believe all the concierge rooms are on the same floor - we at least were on the 6th floor, same as the lounge.

Thanks for all the great, specific information, Maistre Gracey, Disohana, and Dizziami. :goodvibes Thanks for that email address!! Surprised the reservation dept had no clue about it. :confused3

DisOhana, that doesn't seem right that they didn't at least have your itinerary printed at the concierge check in. I don't like little things like that happening - maybe it's little, but it would have turned me off a bit. AT GF they ALWAYS have it - They have total access over it and can reprint/modify it in a snap. There shouldn't have been any reason to send you down to the front desk. :confused3 Kind of a runaround IMO.

Those offerings sound yummy! Time for lunch! ;)

That's too bad they don't offer that preplanning service. It does state on the Disneyland website that concierge guests do have access to the concierge staff prior to check in. That would mean preplanning!

Thanks all!

Thank you for the wonderful info. My kids love the PB & J uncrustables also! It sounds very nice. I'm really looking forward to it. It seems great fun to have a entrance right into the park. I'm hoping for a Grizzly River Rapids view but just being there will be a dream come true so I'm sure any view will be terrific. I'm using my DVC points for the 4 nights at the GC and I feel like its all a wonderful dream.

Dizzy Ami~ What kind of room and view did you have??? Grizzly River Rapids seems like a lot of fun, I can't wait to try it. The small bottles of water seem perfect to grab and take to the park.

Dis Ohana~ ITA with Lives4Disney, the concierge staff should have gotten you the itinerary. That would not have happened at the Poly or AKL concierge. They both couldn't do enough for you both before, during and after your trip. I hope to do GF concierge someday but we really love the Poly and AKL. Still its on my list!! Hopefully in '08. I was really hoping for a Calif Adventure view but you sound like you really enjoyed your PP view I'll relax and enjoy whatever the reservation Gods give me. LOL.

They do have preplanning services, just call the Grand and ask for vacation planning. You will be assigned to a person that will help or plan things for you!!

Ok - this may sound horrible, but I honestly do not remember the view that we had - we got to the room and I put the lock on the door so my three year old adventurer would not try to escape. We did have a 2 queen bed room with a daybed - but honestly do not remember the view!!!

We did have a great time - I felt bad before we got there because I had booked concierge thinking the hotel was full (actually, it was so early the rooms were not yet on the website) oops, my bad!!! But I did not let it worry me, and we had a ton of fun. DH loved the nightly beer, the morning breakfast was perfect to get us through lunch, and we never bought a drink at the park!! It was also nice to not have to spend THAT much money once we got the park, since the bulk of the expenses were covered up front - no little add ons with breakfast, snacks and drinks!!

Thanks, guys for all the info and taking the time to reply!

Matterhorn, my son is almost 6 ft tall. I don't know what I would do with him, lol!! He isn't going to be thrilled to be at DL anyway, and then to make him sleep on the floor :rotfl: .......We drag him with us to WDW several times a year and it's getting old for him. ;) (not for the rest of us, though!!)

Dobie, I really hadn't considered the PP. I don't know.....from what I have read it seems to be overall the least favored of the three. :confused3 Not sure why - that just seems to be the feeling I am getting from the Dis comments I've read.

I am still torn and now considering DLH due to reading the rooms are larger and they have better options for the 3rd child. I just leaned toward GCH due to location, balconies, newer, pool looked beautiful, a bit more upscalish. (Not that upscale matters a whole lot as my kids love the Contemporary for it's fun and action and the Nick Hotel)

It will be a costly trip and I am feeling a bit down that I can't get the perfect fit and something to be all THRILLED about. :guilty: I wish I could go to Disneyland, drive around, check it all out & the hotels and then choose. So hard to choose and commit sight unseen.

Any idea on the room size at GCH compared to say....CR/Poly/ or GF?? Just for an idea as there are conflicting opinions on how many are comfortable in the room.

Thanks so much & Have a Happy New Year!!:goodvibes

Lives4Disney :)

There is a suite on I think the 4th floor, that is not on the concierge level. It has a seperate bedroom, living area with pull out bed, 2 bathrooms and small kitchenette. We got that room when the DLH suites were flooded out a few years ago. It would be more than enough room for the 5 of you and I bet you could add on concierge if you want. I would call ans ask for the corner suite that is not on the concierge level. I hope they can find it for you!!

. . . we requested that bedding and they took it!

What bedding? I wanna be in the know!:goodvibes We went ahead and book the GCH concierge for Sept 17-21 and I am sooooo excited. If I email them a request for a basket, will they send information or pictures of what they offer?

What bedding? I wanna be in the know!:goodvibes We went ahead and book the GCH concierge for Sept 17-21 and I am sooooo excited. If I email them a request for a basket, will they send information or pictures of what they offer?

Oh, sorry - I requested Theme Park View with 2 Queens and a daybed. The AAA agent was on the phone with me and the DL ressie rep and it seemed to be a go. THEN I found out later on this thread that there are no 2queen/daybed rooms with Theme Park view!! Who knows at this point. :confused3 Sorry! I have a feeling I will just have to get what I get, lol. I am bringing an aero for my teen so at this point it doesn't matter - except I do not want bunks.

I am going to try the gift basket thing, too. We always have the WDW concierge shop for us and they have a cute thing in the room for my girls when we arrive. Just a fun little surprise.

Kimerinc - That suite sounds great! I have no idea what I can do at this point because it is booked thru AAA. I haven't even received a conf. number or info yet from them.

Staley - WOW! What a list!!! Thanks! :goodvibes

sorry to break bad news, but I know at WDW resorts it is. I bet most rooms at DL resorts are 2 queens too.

Lives4Disney

We really never requested it at WDW, we are DVC members so we always have it. I think we have become a little spoiled by it. :goodvibes But honestly I wouldn't care what kind of bedding we get so long as I can run around the parks like a kid!:yay:
