They are showing a storm in the Atlantic that may be the next Tropical storm. The track shows it on the other side of the Carribean Islands on Thursday. We are planning on being in Orlando and Disney World all next week!!

I will be at Disney next week, but I live on the Louisiana gulf coast and have found that it is pointless to worry about where a storm that hasn't even developed might head. I don't mean to say that I won't watch, and that I'm not prepared for one, but I would seriously drive myself crazy if I worried over every development in the Atlantic

WDW is so far inland that there's hardly ever much to worry about. The main issue with Hurricanes is the storm surge on the coastline.

Don't sweat it. We were there when Charlie blew through, right directly through Disney. It was scary, but it was pretty crazy how everyone was at the parks that morning, the storm blew through that evening, and all parks except animal kingdom opened the next morning. It was the craziest storm I had ever been through, and it was like Disney didn't miss a beat and all was back to normal by 9:00am. They are well prepared:thumbsup2

We're arriving next Wednesday! I've never had 'go through a hurricane' on my Bucket List!

This far out it wouldn't even be a blip on my radar.
Yep.

Take it from a FL native... this could be absolutely nothing. Even if it is something, Orlando rarely gets hit - it's pretty safe being in the center of the state. Us costal people may get a little nervous as the week drags on.

Let's not use the "H" word until it actually becomes one!

Yes, lots of rain will dampen a Disney trip but if you are worried about safety, you couldn't pick a better place. Had friends in South Florida that every time there was a hurricane coming their way they evacuated to Disney. The guests are safe and well taken care of in the event that it comes that way ... which is not often as it's so far inland.

Thanks for the responses! They are now saying it is nothing to worry about and will probably dissipate. We are splitting our time at the beach, but will just have to stay at Disney longer if we must!! ;-)

'tis the season for overreactions to storms 3000 miles from Disney possibly heading straight for Disney.

We were there for Hurricane Charley, too. It was during our first trip. I remember visiting the parks in the morning and taking pictures of everything being closed/boarded up and battened down. We were staying at the Boardwalk. Disney did a fabulous job of keeping us updated by sliding flyers under the doors (now they'd just send text message alerts). They had free sandwiches and cookies and snacks for guests in the lobby. Because we had a 2 bedroom suite with a kitchen, I was already good on the food department, but DD and I did go down to see what was going on. Kind of a madhouse because folks were freaking out, but again, nothing that Disney couldn't handle. Back in the room they were showing many Disney cartoons and movies. I was somewhat worried (heck, I'd never been in a hurricane before), but realized afterwards that there really was nothing to worry about. Charley came and went fairly quickly. Was quite a spectacular show of mother nature's power to watch. I got up early the next morning to take pictures of the damage, and there was damage, however, WDW was already in full clean up mode. We were back at the parks as scheduled. I do remember that MCO had some pretty extensive damage and parts of some of the terminals were closed. We had to sit in the hallways because the terminal was so damaged. So now I can say that I survived a hurricane at Disney. I also know now, after 14 trips, that things happen. One year DH had a pretty bad case of rotavirus and had to miss the MVMCP, but DS, DD, and I still went. Was he bummed and were we out the extra money, yes, of course. Illness, injury, hurricanes etc. can happen anywhere at any time. I think we all get so involved in planning, and expectations that if it doesn't turn out just the way we hope it will, then the whole vacation is shot. As with anything in this life, plan for the best, but have that backup plan in place too.

If it's the same one discussed on the TV this morning there was less than 10% chance it would develop in to anything at all. So not something to worry about. And we are going to be there next week.

We'll be there next week starting Monday, but I'm not concerned. It's so far inland, that there's no need for alarm. Only a tornado that may spin off the storm would be a concern, but I don't think Florida gets many tornadoes. Getting some rain might be nice, since we're not seeing much with the drought in Texas.

Luckily, my cruise isn't until the following week. Now that's something to think about, not worry mind you, just keep in mind. I typically don't panic much with storms though, probably because I grew up in tornado alley.

Just poncho up and you'll be fine:thumbsup2

Hey, can someone calculate the odds of contracting the Chukungunya virus from a mosquito while riding out a Florida hurricane? :stir:

There's about as much chance of that happening as there is of a snake falling into your lap on Space.
