Just looking for new ideas for packing lunch on a long drive. I don't really want to load up on greasy/salty fast food (esp. along I95!). Does anyone have any creative alternatives?

We pack our electric cooler for our drive from Ontario to WDW. We make sandwiches egg salad and ham and peanutbutter and honey etc for the kids and ourselves to eat. It is cheaper and you don't have to stop to get it if you do not want to you can keep on driving pull out the food and eat. We also bring lots of water and juice boxes etc. We stop to eat our lunches but we do not buy them we pack them and bring it with us.

We like to pack a picnic on a long drive to avoid the fast food trap. We usually make sandwiches and a lot of times we make caprese salad, which is fresh mozzarella cheese with tomato slices, we bring pickles, fresh fruit and usually some chips. Sometimes we bring tuna or homemade chicken salad and crackers too.

Fast food literally makes me ill, so we are always packing up lunches to take with us on car trips. We do lots of chicken salad or pimento cheese sandwiches. Cut up fruit in throw away containers is great, as are those small, sweet carrots in small bags. Cans of Pringles or Lays stacks are great because they don't crush. Twizzlers are good candy to take because they don't melt.

We find a grocery store and make impromptu picnics. Sometimes grocery stores in other parts of the country have different foods that you can't get at home. It's an adventure. :wave2:

We always hit the Hoagie Hut and bought/made sandwiches to take with us in the cooler. Then we could pull off at a rest stop instead of an exit and eat at the picnic tables there. Much faster on and off the highway!

We had a favorite sit down restaurant half-way between LA and San Jose that we'd stop at. It's such a nice break from the drive - we could all get out and stretch and use the rest rooms!!!
