If you are looking for a town to stay in try Fredericksburg, VA it is about 50 miles south of Arlington, VA. Richmond, is about an 105 miles. Hope this helps.

Thank you! have you ever stayed there? We just want to crash there for a few hours, but since our kids will be w/us it has to be somewhere safe & clean . Thanks for any info!

Fredericksburg, Va has many hotels to choose from. Many people stay there when traveling from New England. They want to get past the DC traffic. I have stayed there. I felt safe. When I worked for AAA many years ago in the Boston area I had a lot of drivers stoping in Fredericksburg for the night.

I'm originally from Fredericksburg, and I agree with everyone- stop in Fredericksburg. I don't know the exit numbers, but there are hotels off the Rt 3 exit (The Hampton Inn is nice and has a nice pool), and there are hotels off the Massaponax exit (Rt 1). The Massaponax exit has an outlet mall. If you have any questions feel free to pm me.
